Dealing with Infertility as a Young Wife

The Stress of Infertility

Lois Lunsford
As a young married girl of 18 I wanted to fill our home with love and laughter of children. I found out early on that I was developing problems in this area because I was visiting the Doctor more often than actually necessary for a girl my age. There were so many tests. After giving it our full natural attention for 10 years we decided to get some help from a Fertility specialist.

I had been on birth control for quite some time before the decision was made to actually start our family, well this turned out to be the cause of my major problem which was Endometriosis. If I had gone off the birth control earlier I probably would have gotten pregnant. The Endometriosis grew because I could not get pregnant. My menstruations were horribly uncomfortable.

The Tests

I took my temperature daily so that we could pinpoint my ovulation cycle, and then we tried extra hard to conceive. Then I tried to take a fertility drug that was $4.00 a pill. (the name escapes me) I did this for about 4 months with no luck. I also had numerous sonograms, DNC's, and a uterine wall cleaning/scraping procedure . We also took semen in to the office several times so that I could be injected with it. The purpose of this was to bypass the cervix which the Doctor had thought might be the problem. My husband was also tested and he corrected some of the things that we thought might also be the problem.

At 30 years old we decided to forego any further testing and seek adoption. We were blessed with a beautiful baby girl that we named Angela (Angel) and at 6 months of age while she was still little I had a Hysterectomy. It was inevitable to proceed with this drastic procedure because of the vast progression of my Endometriosis.
