A Small Word on Mosquito Bites
Mosquitoes bite not just to annoy you, but to suck some of your blood out of your body to feed their young. When they suck your blood, they also inject a parasite also known as a sporozoan. These many little cells are what causes that little welt in your skin that gets itchy a lot of the time.
First Things First
Although there are treatments for mosquito bites, they do not treat the bites alone. They need a little bit of your help. You can help the treatment speed up your recovery by resisting the temptation to scratch the bite. Not only does scratching make you want to scratch even more, but it also opens up your skin a little to give air to the sporozoans that mosquitoes inject in you. This allows them to reproduce. Your bite will only get worse when you scratch it, no matter how heavily treated the bite is. To avoid mosquito bites, be sure to use a mosquito repellent before you go to the wild outdoors.
The Treatments
Baking Soda and Water - This is an old home remedy that can help you reduce the itching and pain caused by mosquito bites. It is a helpful step towards a speedy recovery, since it reduces your need to scratch.
Calamine Lotion - This kind of treatment has been known to reduce the itching substantially and suffocates the sporozoans produced by the mosquito bites you treat with it.
Garlic - Peel garlic so that the skin is off, and rub your bites with the soft interior of the piece of garlic. This can suffocate sporozoans and reduce itching.
Aloe Vera - If you can get your hands on this, it is the golden remedy for mosquito bites. Not only does it suffocate sporozoans, but it also contains a chemical that will help your skin reduce the bite, which is one thing the other treatments do not do. The other treatments mentioned here just simply reduce the itching, which is a good step towards recovery, since your temptation to scratch is not present anymore. But with Aloe Vera, you can fight the bite as well.
