Dealing with Twins & Premature Labor Complications

Sebastian Thomas
Are you a new father and don't know what to do with a newborn? Let alone how to take care of one? I can tell you right now that you are in for a ride but a most wonderful one. You will have your nights of waking up and helping to feed your newborn as well as taking care of any other personal need that they may have. Now, if you have twins that would be a different story. Everything will be double the fun for you both, let me tell you.

Some of the best things that you can do with your lovely set of twins is to keep them in the same crib for a while. They will not only be more comfortable together but eat better as well. Eating well for newborns is very crucial because there will be a short period of time in the beginning that they will lose weight but will gain it right back after a while. This can be quite a scary time for parents, but don't worry too much about it.

Now, with twins you have to consider the risk factors of premature delivery and everything else that goes along with it. I am pleased to say that my twins both came out fine, but you can find yourself in a situation that one of your twins may have breathing or eating problems at first.

This is what happened to our son in the beginning. Usually the hospitals local ICU team can take care of them until they are strong enough to go home to you. It is said that when having a twin boy and a girl, that usually the girl will come out without any issues while the boy usually has breathing, eating or temperature issues. We are not sure why, but it is said that girls mature much quicker then boys when in the womb and in life.

Depending on the policies of where you live, I have seen hospitals become quite strict in their procedures of security and the best interest of the child in the perspective of the mother. Yes guys, mothers will have more of a say so in the decision making process of the kids when it comes to newborns in a hospital. Not sure why but this is usually the case. Most forms will be filled out by mothers only and not by the Father. Although, this is not true in all cases and different states.

Overall, if you have a child in the ICU, don't' worry too much about the situation at hand. Most of the time the nurses on site will have the best training and expertise to help recover your newborn so that they can come back home to you healthy. Mothers will never be pushed away from seeing their kids or even breastfeeding them while they are in intensive care. So give them all your love, they are going to need it.
