Dear Brett Favre: Grow Up!

K. Jai Estes
Face it, Brett. It's time to grow up and realize the world doesn't revolve around you. Yes, you are a talented football player who will, one day, be inducted into the Hall of Fame. No one doubts what you have accomplished, and most don't doubt you still have it. However, let's try playing grown-up for a while.

This is the third year you have played around with retirement. You kept the Green Bay Packers on the edge of their seat wondering if you were going to continue to play. Each year the Pack has been patient with you and honored your decision, including this year's decision to retire. No, they didn't want to see you go, but they accepted it. The Packers took it in stride and took the steps to move on without you.

Green Bay turned to their 2005 1st round draft pick, Aaron Rodgers, to take the helm at QB beginning with the 2008 season. They are confident with Rodgers as your replacement. After all, he's been with team for three years, watching and learning from you. In the 2008 Draft, the pack signed QBs Brian Brohm and MattFlynn to provide some competition for Rodgers and develop more quarterbacks.

Now, you have decided to come back to Green Bay. It's fine that you decided retirement wasn't the right move for you at this time, but don't expect the Pack (or anyone else) to want you as a starter just because you are Brett Favre. Plus, you have handled your want to play for Packers all wrong. You have acted like a spoiled brat. Going to the media, proclaiming how you are entitled to play in Green Bay, and worst yet, calling GM Ted Thompson a liar. Not the way to get back in the good graces of the Packers.

For some reason you can't see that you forced the Packers to move on by announcing your retirement, and now you're angry with them for not welcoming you with open arms. Come on, Brett! Time to be a professional, swallow your pride and move on.

And, if you need help finding a role model on how to handle a delicate situation look no further than to the tactful and professional Aaron Rodgers.

Nice work! I'm not a major football fan, but these sorts of things are always interesting. Celebrities in general need to grow up, in a way.
