Dear Dad I Miss You

Roni ODonnell
Dear Dad I miss you
it seems not so long
that you were just sitting here
where you belong

I know you weren't happy
you wanted to be home
I wanted to care for you
not leave you alone

I do often wonder
since I've let you go
if you would still be here
but we'll never know.

I know you were happy
when you returned home
I knew it was the last
and soon you'd be gone

Life must be quality
not how long you live
I know you were happier
that's all I could give

I think of you everyday
not once a year
the short time we had
was precious and dear.

I had more than many
I did have a dad
For that I am happy
but now sort of sad.

I know there will be a day
when we meet again
to love and be happy
my father, my friend.

Our relationship was short but worth every minute.
