Dear Earth

Elena dal Friuli
Some call on creation
For how you came to be
While some call on evolution
To explain what they see.

Independently of one's beliefs

As we celebrate your day
With big writings on the wall.

We took so much of you for granted
As we plowed, burned, and built
Now we find ourselves evaluating
The mistakes of the past and our guilt.

So we try to find new ways
To care for you from this moment on
That all our children and ourselves
Might have an Earth to stand upon.
