Dear Government

A Letter All Americans Should Send Their Government Officials

Darcy Sautelet
Dear Government,

Everyday I read about a possible "Bailout" for the banks, the auto industry - the major corporations. Corporations who have overpriced, overcharged, over taxed - the American people, citizens who spend each and every day of their lives struggling to pay the outrageous amounts they are charged for the basics of life.

You say you want to help the economy. WE are the economy. We work, we spend, we work, and we spend. All the corporations you are "bailing out", receive money each and every day from us. They are the ones who have a stranglehold on this country. Their massive greed and the fancy lifestyles of their C.E.O.'s - lifestyles most Americans can only read about in glossy magazines - are the cause of all this upheaval.

A Government is supposed to work for the "People". We the People...are watching the mad scramble for you, OUR Government, to "bailout" the very corporations who make us work extra hours each day just to pay the over inflated prices they have put on the basic things in life - home, transportation, insurance you our government has demanded we pay, even food. On top of these already inflated items, we are taxed on each and every object - and taxed to extremes those who founded America due to over taxation could never have imagined.

Yet - all of you - Government and Corporations - are broke? With every American working just to give you their hard earned money? Hmmm. Deficits, bailouts, closures, all this talk has done one thing....made us quit spending. And as I said, WE are the economy. On that note, Dear Government do you really want to help the economy?

Here is an idea. Instead of "bailing out" those who have been very lax and sloppy with OUR money - "bailout" the citizens of this country! Pay our mortgages, pay our auto payments, and pay our insurance - a onetime bailout. The corporations get their money, Americans keep their jobs, yet it would be in a way which would be fair to the people and stimulate the economy. Imagine! Americans, essentially debt free would cause a spending in this country like you have never seen. And spending is the core of an economy. I buy from you; you buy from him.......Ronald Reagan's "trickle down" philosophy.

After all, the money which you plan on using for your grand "bailout" came from us to begin with. It is OUR money. We give to you and already give to these corporations. In essence, they would be receiving double because we the people would still be required to send them our paychecks. By paying OUR debt, you would guarantee that we would go out and spend, spend, spend - a whole new wave of payments coming into these corporations. Of course, the one requirement for bailout would be we must be an American citizen.

Dear Government - bail me out! Pay my mortgage, pay my car off, pay my insurance - help the American Economy! Bailing out the corporations will do nothing to help us - the backbone of the economy. Bailing out those who do the spending would be the only logical solution to a failing system.

Just an American Citizen

I agree. I see the long finger of Washington simply poking into even more pie.

"That government governs best which governs least."-Winston Churchill I think. Actually all of this bailout smokescreen is just another power grab. EVERYTHING any politician proposes is just another power grab. They like power. They love using crises to scare us into complying.

Well put! I've lost all of my net worth and then some, my business, my job, the house I built, both my American made cars, including a 2006 Mustang Convertable :-(...In this pathetic economy. Sorry GM, but TS! You built cars, I built houses...Now let's all build windmills. And of course, if you are going to give banks, and userers the money that we can't afford to pay them, give it to them on OUR account! That's fair! Or give EVERYONE nothing, except an opportunity to produce for a living wage. Lead us President Obama, please, just lead.
