Dear Josh McDaniels: Al Davis and the Oakland Raiders Say Thanks

The New Denver Broncos Head Coach Off to a Rocky Start

Vonda Menard
Maybe Josh McDaniels was too eager to put his mark on the Denver Broncos. Maybe he let the power go to his head, but before his team even took the field, McDaniels has created a problem, a big problem. Jay Cutler is a good young QB and the Denver Broncos are about to lose him.

I'm still puzzled as to why McDaniels would entertain for a second trading Cutler for Matt Cassel. Cutler threw for over 4,500 yards last year with 25 touchdowns, while completing 62.3% of his passes

With the glaring deficiencies the Broncos have on defense, I'm still scratching my head over McDaniels decision to start his Broncos team make-over with the one position that didn't need it. Whether McDaniels truly wanted to trade Jay Cutler is irrelevant now. Right or wrong ,Cutler feels disrespected and no longer wants to be a Bronco.

It's hard enough being a new NFL head coach, even harder being a young first time head coach. Josh McDaniels is a young first time head coach, who's lost his starting QB. When the Broncos trade Cutler, whoever takes over will have big shoes to fill. Will the newly signed Chris Simms get a chance to be the Broncos signal caller and can he stay healthy?

Maybe Denver gets one of the free agent QBs available: Rex Grossman, Jeff Garcia or Byron Leftwich. Or McDaniels can choose to start his regime with his hand-picked quarterback and draft a rookie like Sanchez or Stafford. There are many possibilities for McDaniels and the Broncos, but it's a shame that their time and efforts must be spent on this, instead of preparing the team for the start of the season.

Josh McDaniels is yet another assistant coach under Belichick to get a NFL head coaching job. Other coaches, Eric Mangini and Romeo Crennel, were both fired. Eric Mangini is now head coach of Crennel's former team, the Cleveland Browns. Time will tell if McDaniels can find success as a head coach and turn the Broncos into a winner. It looks like he'll now have to do it without Jay Cutler.

While the Denver Broncos work out their problems, Al Davis and the Oakland Raiders must welcome the diversion. Usually it's the Raiders who occupy the press with their questionable moves. Davis has probably already sent McDaniels a fruit basket to thank him and welcome him to the AFC West.

Thanks everyone for the comments, good and bad. At least the story has created a reaction.

Ron, sorry you felt mislead, but it's called marketing. There are 1,000 of stories on Josh McDaniels, you need an angle to have your story read. I explained why Al Davis and the Raiders say thanks and that only needed a sentence.

Thanks for reading the article though.

Lakerdude I think Denver's defense loss more games for them thn Cutler did.

Throwing for over 4,500 yaeds is impressive to me. This guy played on a team with a horrible defense and a running back by committee a committe that was always hurt.

Right on the money DigitalMan. This article is funny. He acts like Cutler gas taken them to the playoffs. He has yet to win a big game. The next guy will probably help them more. The article title should read "Dear Josh McDaniels: Al Davis and the Oakland Raiders Say Damn you", because Cutler loses games for them.

The next QB would have big shoes to fill? What? Are you kidding. Not that Cutler isn't a good QB, but he hasn't done much of anything increase the shoe size for the next guy yet.

I guess this is why the sports writers think so lowly of the bloggers. Al Davis is in the title, yet you don't mention him until the end of the article. And then its out of passing. Personally, since he was in the title, maybe he had made a comment about it. Wouldn't be beyond him to delight in watching Denver struggle. God knows there isn't any love lost between them. But to only mention him out of passing, by just saying he must be happy, without any direct quotes to him or the organization, is just crappy journalism. And not worth my time. In fact I hate having to write this just to point out the obvious. Mr. Menard find something else to do with your spare time instead of pointing out the obvious.

It was a bonehead move to try and move Cutler, especially for Cassel. Let's give Cassel a chance in KC and see how good he is without his star-studded cast of Patriots. If Cutler must go (and I hope he doesn't) the Broncos need to get all they can out of the deal. Don't get a free agent QB. Demand a high (and I mean high) first-rounder, another pick, and a stop gap QB. The Browns seem like a good fit. As for Cutler, he may wish he never opened his mouth when he sees that he might be headed to Detroit, Cleveland, or Chicago!

It's pretty sad that a New head coach would trade their Pro Bowl QB before he ever started a game for him. I am just glad we don't have any drama with the Raiders this year.
