But Madelyn Lee Payne Dunham of Honolulu, Hawaii Wasn't. She Had Money Enough to Look After Not Only Her Daughter but Even Her Grandchildren, After She Moved Away from People like You, Public Records Say So
A republican congressman talked the most unmanly talk last week: If financial incentives were available some 47 years ago, President Barack Obama's mother would have aborted his birth!!!!!
"If you think of it in human terms, there is a financial incentive that will be put in place, paid for by tax dollars, that will encourage women who are -- single parents, living below the poverty level, to have the opportunity for a free abortion,"
"If you take that scenario and apply it to many of the great minds we have today, who would we have been deprived of? Our president grew up in a similar circumstance."
"If that financial incentive was in place, is it possible that his mother may have taken advantage of it?"
When did telling the truth included insulting womanhood and motherhood? Would Abraham Lincoln talk like that about any American mother if he were alive today?
Agreed the great Lincoln's party is in dire states now-a-days after their Presidents exported jobs to Asia and settled personal vendettas with friends-turned-enemies Arabs - all at taxpayers' expense and impoverishing them.
But forgetting basic human decency and showing scant respect for American women and mothers are the most damaging acts Republican senators and representatives can commit at this time, especially when Democrats are gaining on them.
Each mistake committed at this critical stage can make next Presidency and majority on the Capitol Hill more distant. Each mistake is going to distance these dreams by a span of four years.
Unless Republican doyens like Newt Gingrich rein in the loose tongues of his congressmen and put an end to their rowdy talks, the price the party pays will be too high and the downslide is going to be steep.
If Republican partymen were smart, they would have gone with the proposals of the healthcare reforms. Then, as the weaknesses of the reform slowly emerge over the next four years, they would have got a valid platform for claiming from the nation the next Presidency.
Foolish rabble-rousing in town halls may look big on TV but cannot cover up the truth that the party is not talking for the people but for the richest doctors, insurance CEOs and the pharmas who always provided the financial base for the party. As and when the voters realize that they were duped through misinformation, a severe backlash will result.
If the party is bent upon destroying itself with the meanest tactics unbecoming of a political party of this greatest nation in the world, then nobody can stop it. Democrats committed the same mistake before and had to learn the hard way.
Last Presidential election, I was to vote for John McCain. But I decided not to when McCain just walked away with a Mono Lisa smile after hearing a women calling Mrs. Clinton a b-word. I expected better wisdom from a grandfather and a veteran figure of his standing. I expected him to tell that woman, "See, Hillary may be my opponent. But my meeting cannot be used to vilify any woman in USA."That would have won him millions of votes. And I didn't vote because my Republican idol failed me.
Unfortunately, Lincoln's party in its over-zealousness to portray themselves as protectors of family and Christian life is erring on the side of self-righteousness. And that is blinding them to the fact that they are breaking their own laws.
A nation that does not respect its women cannot make much headway in the world. The best examples are the countries of the Middle East who still cannot any claim any prominence in the world despite all their fabulous oil wealth. As a man, I will leave it to the women folk to consider how much they may have contributed to this situation - a foil I had to face from my sex whenever I tried to broach the subject.
And it is really shocking that Abraham Lincoln's party is indulging in discrediting motherhood.
The earlier Republicans correct their self-righteousness and megalomania, the better for them. May be they should read Lincoln's biography again to know their real worth in today's world. That, any way, doesn't include foul-mouthing and insulting mothers, fit only for the street and not the Capitol Hill.
"With malice toward none, with charity for all, with firmness in the right as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in; to bind up the nation's wounds; to care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow and his orphan - to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace, among ourselves, and with all nations."
The great soul who spoke these words was not speculating whether American women would be aborting their pregnancies or not. He had better things to talk about than insulting his opponent's mother or thinking about her uterus.
Men who don't know the real worth of the Republican party should at least have the better sense not to destroy it with their intemperate tongues.
Sarah Palin won my admiration recently when she stood up for her daughter. It requires special courage for a woman to do that in a world dominated by men. But if the male colleagues in her party are continuing their goony behavior that started with prompting a young girl to fell a vulnerable President, all her dreams of doing better things for this nation will fizzle out into nothingness.
The margin of error that her party can afford at this juncture is practically nil. Unless her party learns knew tricks, repeating the same old, worn out rhetoric and gimmicks can ultimately fossilize her party into oblivion. The advanced ages of the people seen shouting at town hall meetings show how endangered the party has become.
