After an impressive win against the Patriots, the Dolphins had reason to be excited, but this wildcat formation is not the holy grail of football. Watching the game you expected Bill Belichick and the Patriots would come out in the second half and be able to defend the wildcat, but they couldn't. I'm not sure what the problem was, but safe to say the Patriots defense has now been thoroughly schooled on the wildcat.
I sent a thank you note to the Baltimore Ravens defense after they stifled the Dolphins wildcat offense in their playoff game. I thought that would be the end of the wildcat talk, but no. Come draft day, the Miami Dolphins selected Pat White in the2nd round, apparently they envision White running the wildcat package. Great, it looks like we'll see more wildcats this season and unfortunately it's spreading.
In Minnesota, rookie Percy Harvin is also practicing in the wildcat formation. I have a message to defensive coordinators, please properly defend this formation, and drive it to extinction. I'm not sure why it is I dislike the wildcat so much, I guess it just looks too collegiate to me.
I realize no one cares how I feel about the wildcat, and teams will continue to use it as long as it's working and now that the wildcat seems to be here to stay, I'm waiting for the statue of liberty play to showcase next.

Post a CommentNo one cares how you feel about the wildcat. j/k
Maybe your dislike stems from thinking that it's a trick/unfair play? If that's the case is it really that much different than motioning a halfback to the slot to create a mismatch with a linebacker?
