Dear Son, Life is a Patchwork Quilt

J.E. Ward

Dear Son,

Life is a patchwork quilt. Each patch square, triangle or round tells a story and represents an episode of our lives. Sometimes the patch has a "to be continued" attached. In the end, each word, verse, paragraph and chapter speaks to us through the colors, the textures, the fibers, the muted tones of the patches derived from mama's old dress, daddy's worn out overalls, grandma's tattered silk scarf, and your own favorite shirt that became too small.

Each piece represents a story that can entertain standing alone. But the patches need each other to complete the purpose and fulfill the destiny of their creator.

Every quilt has a creator. Every quilt creator has a theme for every quilt that they lovingly stitch. Every fabric shape, every thread, every caring caress of fabric, is for the intention of completing the quilt and completing the story.

Our lives have a Creator. The quilt pieces are the moments, the expressions of time that occur and produce specific events and feelings. The birth of a child. The wedding of two lovers. The making of a friend.

Even the pieces that yield us unhappy are important to the quilt. The loss of a friend or loved one. There is the tragic, the atrocious, the meaningless that we deal with that adds purpose to our quilt. These all make up the patches of the quilt called our lives that tell a story. In the end only our Creator will unfold us, his complex beautiful creation. Then and only then will our truth be known and our story be told in full.

Son, what is the destiny, the character, the purpose, the longing, the meaning of your patchwork quilt?

Hey this is good! Great wisdom here. We have many destinies to fulfill in our lives When we have fulfilled one, we go onto the next, until finally we reach heaven. Isn't it great?
