Fortunately? Honest White-Man film critic (non-prejudice) Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times gave this film 3½ out of 4 stars. This "laugh out loud" 2010 American remake film of the 2007 British version (written by English screenwriter Dean Craig) originally also called "Death at a Funeral" of the same name,
Is almost an exact dialog repeat speaking of the original movie, except with mostly expert Black Hollywood actors and is even funnier than ever before simply because of the incredible acting ability and without the British accents!
It's been nearly twenty-four years or more since the tragic Oliver Stone 1986 Vietnam film called "Platoon" that I actually viewed a film in a local public theater that had an audience of 50% Black and 50% White lovable and considerate film viewers for a night of TRULY worth-while paid entertainment, without any racial prejudice and NO cell phone interruptions.
"In-house theater film viewers did seem to look at one-another with curiosity? possibly because it was such a mixed race of theater audience?"
The loving Black elderly couple sitting in front of my wife and I in the theater nearly "laughed themselves to death!" during the comical parts that famous Hollywood actor Danny Glover (Uncle Russell) played as a wheel-chaired elderly man. Especially the part where Uncle Russell crapped on Tracy Morgan's (Norman) "helping hand" while he was sitting on the toilet seat and eventually fell asleep. (Danny Glover also used his famous film series Lethal Weapon words: "I'm getting too old for this shit!").
The first part of the film comically portrayed Chris Rock (son and brother Aaron) of the deceased father, showing the funeral director delivering his father in a long wooden casket to his home, slowly opens the casket and discovers they had reluctantly delivered the "wrong body!" Depicting the body of an elderly Asian Man, where Chris Rock does speak some of his famous one-liner comedy statements, with very little profanity, which I repeat is very unusual for Chris. "This is where the film comedy begins!"
His brother Ryan (Martin Lawrence) is a famous and seemingly at the time "broke novel writer" of paper-back garbage. Who tells his brother Aaron (Chris Rock) that he can't help pay for their father's funeral, although he can somehow afford a first-class plane ticket from from New York to L.A.? They continuously argue about this problem throughout the entire film, which does seem to get old at times.
Original White man film actor (short-person) Peter Dinklage (Frank Lovett) reprises his role in this 2010 film, the same as he played in the original 2007 film called "Death at a Funeral". Whom claims to Aaron and his brother Ryan that their father was gay? And this little short-person white man Frank was his secret lover with truly remarkable photographs of sexual acts of the two. (Ironically? The film NEVER stated that he was short or even at anytime called him a midget, although he did stand out from the crowd during this funeral wake of mostly Black people).
"Little White-Man Gay Frank Lovett" states that he wants $30,000.00 in cash or he will show these horrible love making pictures between their father and him to their Mama. Which fortunately never took place during the funeral wake regarding certain hallucinogenic drugs that were un-intentionally supplied by one of their family members called Jeff, Elaine's (beautiful cleavage Zoe Salanda) brother.
One of my favorite life-time and famous Black Hollywood film actors called Keith David (They Live 1988) played the part of the frustrated minister/pastor whom is trying to continue this funeral procession in the family home, without any luck. Even though? The little gay short-person black mailer Frank (Peter Dinklage) has created an enormous problem for the brothers and other family members, still trying to figure out? "What the hell is going on during this wake?"
This 2010 comical film continues on with Elaine's fiancee Oscar (James Marsden) that has been somehow drugged with hallucinogenic drugs that originally read on the bottle Valium, showing his continuous beautiful muscular naked body and buttocks up on the roof-top of their home simply because he is "totally freaked out" from these drugs. Although? Elaine's father still thinks this white-man is still a weirdo and has always been, which makes this film that much more comical in return for viewing pleasure!
This 2010 released remake film called "Death at a Funeral" was released in local USA theaters on April 16, 2010. Running time is approx. 90 minutes and is well worth the price of a modern day theater ticket! Believe it or NOT? This historical "so-called racist" comedy film was directed by White-man Canadian director Neil LaBute!
As a year after year paid theater film patron. I am finally glad to see Hollywood filmmakers over-come their racial prejudicial differences, especially regarding the 2009 film/movie called "Law Abiding Citizen" where the American traditional way of the Black Man's attorney/defendant versus the White-Man district attorney is completely reversed. "This is also an incredible film to view now out on 2010 DVD!" provided that you are not prejudice!
I personally give this 2010 film called "Death at a Funeral" a B+ rating! Yahoo.com daily users gave it a high rating of B, with unfortunate "mixed reviews?", which was most likely based on a prejudice racial point of view? Which I do NOT understand? Simply because their was never any mention of White-Man versus Black-Man comments depicted in this hilarious film at anytime. Unfortunately, this "so-called 2010 racial film" was NOT racist in the least, but pure entertainment at it's best!
