Death at a Funeral Review

Allie Bojko
Death At A Funeral was one movie that got me all excited when it first came out, unfortunately I didn't watch it on it's opening weekend. A week passes and I still haven't watched the movie, my busy work schedule certainly played into the factor of me missing out on the movie. I finally got the chance to see this movie, actually I saw this movie last night and I absolutely loved it. I was kind of thinking that this movie although it had a spectacular cast, it would work against the success of the movie, but boy was I wrong. I was certainly glad that I watched it, so check out the rest of the review and find out if this movie Death At A Funeral is for you or not.

A brief summary of what Death At A Funeral is all about it. Aaron (played by Chris Rock) is a highly respected tax accountant who's married to Michelle (played by Regina Hall) and still lives at home with his parents. Unfortunately Aaron's father passes away, than it all becomes Aaron's responsibility to plan the funeral and give his eulogy only because he's the eldest sibling of the family. Aaron plans the funeral in his parents home, he tries to stay headstrong by displaying appropriate facial expressions when greeting his guests, his celebrity author brother Ryan (played by Martin Lawrence) and of course his fathers colleagues, still in shock that his father had just passed away. Several things go wrong during the funeral, the undertaker mistakenly grabs the wrong casket. Since Aaron's brother Ryan wants to bathe in his celebrity status as an author, he's quite stingy because he doesn't want to pay for anything. Aside from all of those things is something a little more horrifying, Aaron and Ryan get some unwanted information from a guy named Frank (played by Peter Dinklage) who's a little four foot five dwarf that attends the funeral and someone no one seems to know.

I'm quite shocked as to how badly this film's been rated because to me this film deserves at least a "B" rating. It's not the greatest comedy movie of all time but it's certainly up there with the rest of them because of the large array of comedic moments. If I were to compare this movie to Date Night I'd take this one over it by far although Date Night wasn't half bad. The director Neil Labute clearly displayed that he has talent in his profession and it showed in the movie, which I think was really great. This movie was great in its pacing, I'd also like to say that the acting cast did quite well in acting in this movie it went from the performances being relatively decent to spectacular ones. I'm still mesmerized as to how low a rating this movie received because this movie is certainly worthy of a higher rating I'd say like a "B" minus.

Death At A Funeral movie certainly at it all, all in one movie that is. There were nude moments in the movie, people high on drugs, bodies coming out of caskets, manure on people's body, a wife that wants to have a child, fighting siblings, and what's great is that all of the things I mentioned in this very sentence are all in this movie. I'd have to say for a fact that this movie's unbelievably funny I have never laughed as much as I did watching this movie than I have all year. Throughout this entire movie you'll be laughing your gluteus maximus, there were moments in the movie where I almost busted my gut (embarrassing I know because I am a girl) because I simply cried out hysterically. I also found the Danny Glover scene hilarious, he's still got it, his performance made the movie all that much better. If your looking to laugh and have a good time than I certainly recommend that you watch this movie Death At A Funeral. I truly appreciate the individuals that have taken time out of their day to read this review I am certainly thankful for that.

The actor Peter Dinklage acted in both of the 2007 and 2010 Death At A Funeral movies as the gay lover of the deceased man.
