Death Metal Word of the Day: Defenestrate

Zach Zimmerman
Death metal lyrics are just chock full of interesting, weird, and archaic words. I have probably learned almost as many cool words from perusing the liner notes of my favorite CD's as I did reading Joseph Heller's Catch-22 for the first time. (Almost.)

Anyway, our death metal word of the day is defenestrate, which means:

To throw out of a window.

People, animals, and things can be defenestrated. Here it is in a sentence:

I received a Meshuggah CD for Christmas, but before long the thing had been defenestrated.

Your word of the day comes from Quebecois grinding death metal band Cryptopsy, who opened their debut Blasphemy Made Flesh with a little number called "Defenestration," the lyrics to which you'll have to head elsewhere to read. Here it is.
