- they beat the toddler repeatedly with two leather belts
- they held her head under water in the bath tub
- and if that wasn't enough to satisfy their torture of this child, Ziegler grabbed her by her hair and threw her across the room, slamming her head against a tile floor
This is so sickening and depraved that I can't comprehend how in the hell a mother could do this to her child, nor a stepfather. There is absolutely no excuse, legal or otherwise, for this horrendous crime.
After killing her, they stored her body in a storage shed for two months, then stuffed her remains in a plastic bin and tossed it like so much garbage into Galveston Bay. If there is an afterlife, I hope these two spend eternity in hell.
I want to know why they are being held on only $350,000 bond each? Why aren't they being held without bail for this murderous act? And I sure as hell hope the Galveston County DA doesn't offer a plea deal attached to their affidavit. These two low-lifes deserve the electric chair, nothing less. They have no place in a civilized society and are fully capable of murdering again if released after serving time.
For you death penalty opponents, don't tell me it doesn't deter crime. Consider this: after they are executed, they cannot commit another crime ever again. How is that not a deterrent?
Scan the news archives, and you will discover time and again that a good percentage of released murderers commit the same crimes again. Same for pedophiles.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice study of recidivism rates for prisoners released in 1994, 1.2% of those who had served time for homicide were arrested again for homicide. Doesn't sound like a large percentage, right? Think again, as the percentage is of 272,111 prisoners. Doing the math, that means that 3,265 needless murders were committed by these beasts after serving time for previous murders. Still don't think someone who kills another human being should get the death penalty? What if one of these "people" killed a family member of yours? Would it change your mind.
Riley Ann Sawyers deserves justice and these two people who called themselves her parents should be fried. Actually, they should have to experience what they did to her, and then execute them.

Post a CommentIF THEY KILL A CHILD THE DESERVE TO DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It doesn't deter crime?? Let's execute them and just see if they can try it again!
I totally agree that these sub-human scumbags deserve to die. What a BIG man Zeigler is to beat up a two year old girl. I would love the opportunity to be locked up in a room with him for five minuets and a written immunity from presecution when I got done beating him to death with my bare hands.
And as for Silvermoon's comment, I do respect his/her point of view, but then what do we do with VIOLENT non-productive people like this who are a drain on society?
Hopefully some one on the inside will stab Zeigler to death. THAT WOULD BE THE BEST Christmas present I could get!!!!!!!!

From what I have read, sounds like the mother was being abused(controlled) as well. She is only 19 years old!Death penalty? Absolutely not! Come on people we don't live in the 5th century and we should not be acting like blood thirsty barbarians. This is the type of thinking in society that produces people who would beat their children to death. The violence needs to stop somewhere, right?
Bob, this is truly a travesty. I am an advocate of the death penalty, but you know how it goes in this country. Even if they get the death penalty, it will never be carried out. In lieu of that, they, and others like them, should be either placed in a hole in the ground somewhere to serve a life sentence or sent to prison in the general populace. They won't last a week there before someone kills them. And to have done this to her because she wouldn't say "please" or "yes, sir." So very sad.
this story is heartbreaking, its a shame that individuals take on the responsibility of bringing another into this world, and when they get here they are treated in such cruel and unhumane ways. If these two "parents" get anything less than capital punishment something is wrong with the system.
the both of them dont deserve a number in the psych ward
Kelly M: If, in fact, murderers in this country WOULD be locked up for life, I agree. Too many times these SOBs serve a minimum sentence as a result of plea deal, then get time off for "good behavior". They are then released after just a few years to go out into society and repeat the crime. No, these beasts should get what they deserve and save the taxpayers a load of money.
I don't support the death penalty in any case (since we can securely lock people up and throw away the key for the rest of their lives) - but the number of children being abused and murdered in this country by their parents and caregivers is appalling. For a nation that screams about making sure every baby gets born we aren't doing much to protect these precious children once they come into the world. No child deserves to die in such a manner, let alone at the hands of her own parent.
Great article. They say when you're a little kid you feel pain alot worse than an adult. So why not allow both parents feel that level of pain in adults and then lop off their heads.
