"Death of a Salesman": Revival Upcoming on Broadway

Mike Nichols will be directing a revival of "Death of a Salesman" on Broadway notes Perez Hilton. It is certainly a timely production now, with the country in a recession / depression. Willy Loman is a classic character whose woe is particularly suitable to these tough times.

The Willy Loman character will be portrayed by Philip Seymour Hoffman in this new revival of "Death of a Salesman." This actor has the depth needed to play this role well. He does pathos well. He has already earned an Oscar and been nominated for the Tony Award.

This revival will likely be an enormous hit. Mike Nichols and Philip Seymour Hoffman are both genius in their careers. They will bring a new look at a classic and bring it to life for a new generation. The revival of "A Death of a Salesman" will open in the fall of 2011, notes Playbill.

Philip Seymour Hoffman will give a fascinating portrayal of Willy Loman. This dark role will showcase this actor's talents and may win him some major awards. He has the gravitas and noir presence to create a compelling view of Willy Loman. This character is struggling with trying to obtain the American dream, is a salesman working on commission only, is still trying to pay off a mortgage, has hallucinations, possible suicidal tendencies, conflicts with his sons and a lover and a wife.

It is fascinating to see that the play "Death of a Salesman" by Arthur Miller, which was published in 1949, still has enough power to warrant a Broadway revival. Miller won a Pulitzer Prize and a Tony Award for his creation.

Broadway may get a boost from this show. There will probably be a rush for tickets and that brings attention to all the shows on the Great White Way. Mike Nichols has already won nine Tony Awards, including one for "The Odd Couple." That play has certainly become part of America's fabric. Almost everyone knows the story line.

Nichols also won an Oscar for "The Graduate," notes Playbill. He is a veteran of Broadway. His shows have power and popularity. Mike Nichols is a true talent of cinema and theater. He is an important part of American culture. It will be fascinating to watch how he adapts a "Death of a Salesman" to reflect upon modern society.

    I don't think they will have any trouble selling tickets for this one. "Death of a Salesman" is revived a lot on Broadway. It is a great, great play. People like me, though, wait for the discount tickets.
