Death: How to Stop the Fear

It's the Last Trip

Kevin Lamb
The fear of death is something which has haunted generations of people for centuries. Even societies in the remotest parts of the world all worship some type of a God or another; why is this? This worship of a God is because of what might (or might not) come after we leave this world.

Fear is something which rules our mind in this third dimensional existence. The fear of death (Thanatophobia) is a destructive emotion that dominates the mind on an every day basis. This fear also keeps some people from enjoying an otherwise enjoyable existence as they worry about the last trip we take on this dimension.

Friedrich Nietzsche wrote to live "dangerously" in life. Not to live beyond the limits of life, but to live an "expanded" life. Living an expanded life keeps the mind busy, which leaves little time for fear.

Embrace Life

The key is to not try to stop fearing death, but to embrace life and live it with a passion. Try to follow your dreams in life, don't run from your fears. This theory will keep your mind on a positive mental path, rather than fearing something that's unknown.

Some of the mind is ruled by the ego which keeps us in a state of fear. This fear of the unknown continues to haunt the mind. The ego is a tool in which we need to survive, but it is also one when "overly active" can lead to a deep state of depression. So why do we fear something that we know nothing about?

Live in the Now

As with most things in life we always make them out to be worse than they really are. Then after we've been through what we had in fact feared the most we usually comment: "that wasn't as bad as I thought it would be."

That's the ego doing what it always does the best as it creates: worry, fear, and self doubt. How do we know that death is horrible? Do we remember any past deaths that we've gone through? It's been said that the only two things in life that are inevitable are "death and taxes." As for me, I believe I prefer the latter.

Rabindranath Tagore states: "Death is not extinguishing the light; it is putting out the lamp because dawn has come." The loss of control is something which boggles the sentient mind. Most human beings live to control, and when something arrives which they can't control, fear begins to dominate the mind. Some have said that there are only two emotions in life: love and fear; which emotion would you rather live with?

Will we be less when we die? Not at all; dying is all about the expansion and evolution of the soul as we go from one lifetime to the next. Death is not the end, it's only the beginning. Jesus Christ himself told the dying murderer on the cross, "I tell you the truth, today you will be in paradise."

Most eastern religions celebrate death; it's only in the western civilization which chooses to mourn it. So when you lay your head down at night just remember, some say that death is the best trip of all; why do you think it's saved for the last.
