Death Threats Against Bristol Palin & Mark Ballas Another Sign of the Fall of American Values
Where's the Outcry Against Bulying, Intimidation and Hate Speech?
In a series of stories that are simply too bizarre to be true, several news sources have been reporting for the past few days the Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas got death threats as the finals for "Dancing with the Stars" approached. Another news story that was widely reported involved the white powder found in a threatening letter sent to Bristol Palin. Security was reportedly tightened at the "Dancing with the Stars" set, and Mark Ballas was asked by studio executives to stop tweeting in case his Twittering was somehow "inciting" people. These stories beg the question "What is wrong with you haters and bullies?"
Bitter People Making Vitriolic Comments & Death Threats
As someone who covered "Dancing with the Stars" and who focused on Bristol Palin and Kurt Warner as two underdogs, I can personally attest to the amount of vitriol I read in comments on my own articles. My articles simple recapped the dances, frequently mentioned the costumes, summed up the judges statements, and reported the scores, yet they received a large amount of extremely negative comments about -- a teenage girl who turned 20 while still a contestant! So, you don't like her mother Sarah Palin. So you think Brandy or Jennifer Grey are better dancers. Is that any excuse to call Bristol Palin names and use vulgar language, much less threaten Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas with death threats? It's just a TV dance show, and even a Presidential election is no place for insults and death threats! Yet some people were so bitter and blinded by their political disappointments they took it out on a teenage girl.
Bristol Palin's Threatening Letters, Death Threats & an Anthrax Scare
Mass murderers get more sympathy for their heinous crimes from people who insist they had bad childhoods and are misunderstood. Luckily, Bristol Palin never asked for sympathy. She just wanted to dance, but you would have thought she was vivisecting live puppies on the air from the comments I read. If that's not bad enough, some warped individuals took it another step further and decided threatening letters, death threats and an anthrax scare were somehow appropriate steps to take.
"Death Threats & Anthrax Scares Are Not Appropriate Behavior"
It is past time for a reality check, folks. This is NOT healthy behavior -- none of it: not the insults, not the bullying, not the bitterness, not the hate-mongering and hate speech, and -- do I really have to say it? -- certainly not the death threats and anthrax scares! No one should have to type out "Death threats and anthrax scares are not appropriate behavior."
Is Hating a Straight, 20-Year-Old White Girl a Hate Crime?
The disturbing thing is, many of the same people spewing hate rhetoric at a 20-year-old girl are the same liberal crowd who want special protections and special laws to protect others from hate crimes! So, you're telling America it is OK to hate and make death threats against a 20-year-old white girl, while special minority groups are more deserving of tolerance and protection. I hope whoever sent the threatening letters and the white powder are caught and charged with hate crimes. Bristol Palin has most definitely been the victim of mindless, bitter hate, and if we are going to have hate crime laws, they should apply to all haters.
Where are the Feminists?
One wonders where the various feminist organizations are in all of this. Where is the sister-woman rallying around a young woman who set out on her own to drive from Alasaka to the CBS Television City studios and who received death threats for competing?
Another Sign of the Fall of American Values
My parents died in the early 1990s. Their entire lives they lived in a time when this kind of blind hatred against a girl on a dance show would have not just been impossible but inconceivable. In the past 15 years or so I have watched not just American values, but morals, manners and common sense fall by the wayside while people with the loudest, shrillest, angriest voices think that they can rule by insults and intimidation. The result of this decline in values is evident when a girl barely out of her teens receives death threats for making it to the finals on a dance show.

Post a CommentI am not a fan of Sarah Palin, and I thought that Bristol was a terrible dancer. But I am ashamed that Americans would go so far as to send death threats to Bristol and Mark. Even if I disagree with her political stance, I have nothing but respect for a hard-working single mother like Bristol.
Oh, boo hoo! The liberal left is calling us... TEA BAGGERS! Oh, the pain, the shame, the insult, the... what the heck? I like tea! I like the idea of the Tea Party. We should just accept it as a supreme compliment and let the hate mongers struggle to come up with a better insult.
I am really shocked by two things:
1. This didn't get reported much on TV or the radio - I sure didn't hear about it
2. Some people are trying to DEFEND it by complaining that Bristol made it to the finals by regurgitating this tea bag nonsense! I guess those liberal judges are all tea baggers, cuz they all thought Bristol was good and even Lacy Schwinner said Bristol peaked at just the right time.
Good job to Bristol! Shame on everyone who insulted and ridiculed her.
Wow, did some idiot really come in here and try to defend death threats against Bristol Palin? "Mailhead" needs to be committed for that kind of disturbed thinking. "Someone votes a way we don't like so we will make death threats against a teen." Yeah, right. Get some help "Mailhead."
POOR HATER. WHY DON'T YOU GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT. THE JUDGES LIKED BRISTOL, THE VOTER LIKED BRISTOL. YOU DON'T LIKE HER MOTHER, SO YOU ARE TRYING TO TAKE IT OUT ON A YOUNG LADY. AND ITS ALWAYS GOOD TO ACTUALLY *READ* THE ARTICLE BEFORE YOU POST SOMETHING SILLY. THE WRITER NEVER SAID ANTHRAX WAS SENT, YOU SILLY GOOSE. HE SAID IT WAS AN "ANTHRAX SCARE" AND JUST LIKE ALL OTHER ANTHRAX SCARES, IT TURNED OUT TO BE TALCUM POWDER. GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT
there was never no anthrax,it was baby powder...get the story straight tea bagger
problem is tea party were voting on their political interest with bristol palin on account of her mother, and they are not fans of normal dwts viewers
dancing with the stars isn't politics, however gop tea party changed that scenario, dwts is the art of movement to music. you tea baggers got a
chance to vote in the recent mid term elections and cheated there as well,i believe It is dishonest of tea party to vote
their political opinions against better talent like jen... +derek. Tea Party cheat other deserving
dancers, and tried to discredit the show, and they put Bristol in the terrible
position of knowing that her wins are fraudulent and fake.whatever vitriol people have against bristol she deserves it,it is no difference then what her and her mother put on us liberals...so who is right and wrong?
I saw this mentioned on some news s how in passing, but no one commented, interviweed, etc. It was just a one-liner that didn't even mention Bristol Palin that said something like "Suspicious white powder sent to "Dancing with the Stars"
Why was this never reported on the major news? I see I am not the only person who never heard about this. Boy, the news media sure does pick who it's going to rally round, doesn't it? I guess if you are the teenage daughter of a notable Republican, there isn't much media sympathy for you.
