All-Star Indie pop/rock group Debate Team is lead by band front man Ryan McNeill (vocals/guitar) along with guitarist Drew Brown (OneRepublic), drummer Dan Konopka (OK Go), bassist Bob Morris (The Hush Sound), and keyboardist Adam James.
The group's press material mentions that, 'the band (Debate Team) in many ways has developed into a creative outlet for its members, enabling them to explore music that might not make sense in their established bands.'
Due to touring commitments with their main bands the group has decided to focus more on releasing EPs instead of full length projects. But the first of those releases, 'Wins Again,' verges on a short LP with its lineup of 8-tracks.
The songs found on the EP feature a real carefree, let's play and let the magic happen feel to them. Prior to heading into the studio the band hadn't even played several of the songs found on the EP together as a group. It just shows that when you put such a talented group of musicians together something good is probably going to come out of it.
For the most part the songs are filled with infectious melodies that range from melodic and meandering to up-tempo power pop/ Indie rock tracks that have just the right mixture of guitars, keys & drums parts to frame out the lead vocals- forming a musical painting.
Highlight tracks included, "Curious Pair", "Leave", and the very interesting sounding track, "Please Don't Sell Me Out."
Hopefully the guys will continue to find the necessary time in the future to continue periodically putting out new great material under their Debate Team moniker.
