Debbie Meyer Green Bags: Save Money on Produce and Keep it Fresh

Heather B.
I have a confession. I stopped buying fresh produce for a quite a while and switched to frozen. I prefer to go grocery shopping once every two weeks, on payday, but unfortunately, my produce wasn't lasting that long. Luckily, I saw advertisements for Debbie Meyer's Green Bags on TV. It claimed that these bags would preserve my fruits and vegetables, keeping them fresher longer.

The commercial explained that produce releases Ethylene Gas as it ripens after being harvest, but this gas accelerates aging and rotting. Debbie Meyer Green Bags supposedly contain a natural Oya mineral form of Zeolite that absorbs and neutralizes the Ethylene Gas. This delays rotting, keeping the food fresh for a longer time. They also prevent moisture and mold by controlling humidity, block UV light, and are reusable. Sign me up!

I called the number and reached an automatic recording. I agreed to receive 20 bags for $9.95. But wait! If I just pay additional shipping and handling, I could have another set for free. Well, how could I refuse? I had to be asked about other promotional offers and refuse them 2-3 times each before my order was processed, but finally I was done and just had to sit back and wait.

A few days later I noticed that $38 had been charged to my card, rather than the approximate amount that I should have been charged. I called in to ask about it and was reminded politely that I had to pay shipping on both. That didn't add up, because $10 plus two shipping fees of $7 each amounted to $24 plus tax. It turned out I had been charged for the extra bags. The nice lady explained that, since they had already shipped, all she could do was credit me for half of the cost of the extra bags. I didn't remember until afterwards that I was meant to get that second set for free, but I didn't bother calling back.

The bags arrived much sooner than I expected, about two weeks later. I was eager to try them. The first time I went grocery shopping, I bagged all of my produce in the Green Bags except my bananas which I'd heard wouldn't benefit in the Green Bags. Most of my produce had been withering within about ten days of purchase, but at eleven days after being purchased, all of my vegetables still look as fresh as the day I bought them! I am amazed!

Already I have saved money on produce. Now I am able to feed my family fresh food without having to buy it frozen. I no longer have to throw away produce that wasn't cooked in time. I can reuse my bags up to 8 times after rinsing, and I can even use them on fresh flowers. Even with the mix-up about the cost, they were well worth the money spent. I would recommend Debbie Meyer Green Bags to anyone, because they really do work!

  • These bags contain Zeolite that absorb Ethylene Gas that causes rotting.
  • They will delay the aging process for more than two weeks.
  • These bags did work for me!
Some people claim it is best to store produce outside of any bags. Most fruit keeps best at room temperature, and very cold temperatures can kill the taste of some vegetables. I'll keep my Green Bags, though, thanks!

Heather, just read your article about the green bags. I just bought them and I have not had a good experience with them. The cucumbers I put in them rotted in a day, as did the peaches. I rescued most of my strawberries today before they all rotted. I read the box and it said that some veggie may become moist in the bags (well, duh), and you should dry them out. By my calculation and experience, you'd have to take the bags out every day and dry them out in order for the stuff to stay fresh. I'd like to know your experience in this regard. Thanks.

Thanks for the review - we have planted a large garden, and will be needing quite a few of these. :-)

If you'd like to see a video review of the Debbie Meyer Green Bags, with an independent time-lapse test, check out www.asotv.info. They do work, but there are some issues regarding them you need to know about when using them.

I just bought these tonight, so I don't know how well they work. I just wanted to comment on the overcharge. I've been reading a lot online today about this product, and although the product for the most part gets good reviews, the customer service doesn't . I've read countless reviews where people claim to have been overcharged by a lot, with no refund. I still wanted to try these so I was happy to see that my local drugstore is now carrying them. I bought 20 bags for $9.95. If you're interesting in getting them I would suggest that you look around, I bet they are for sale in a store near you too.

Great information. I heard a salesperson at Bed Bath and Beyond say these bags are selling like hot cakes. They sell out as fast as they get a shipment in. She said even restaurants are purchasing them. Glad to read they really work!
