It is best to understand the workings of collection agencies just in case you need to block those irritating telephone calls and letters. Creditors tend to hire collection agencies after the creditor has tried all attempts to collect a debt without success.
The thing about a debt collection agency is that they will stop at nothing to hunt you down, they seem to be very good at their job. If you go ahead and change your address but then fill out your credit card information on a website online then do not be surprise when the collection agency finds you. These agencies exploit all kinds of resources in an endeavour to track down those who owe money. Those who work for collection agencies can find you through searching through phone directories, online databases, post office and even collecting information by posing as a friend.
So you can see that many collection agencies will do just about anything to search and find those they feel owe them money. The positive of all of this, is that collection agencies do not pay well and end up hiring people who are not always that great at their job. That means your file could be possibly misplaced or lost among the millons of other records.
If you are trying to avoid credit agencies then one of the best things you need to do is get a new telephone account and be sure that you have your telephone not listed. Also don't apply for loans, credit cards, or anything that involves giving out your personal information.
But the best advice is to find away to slowly pay off your debts because the trouble with trying to escape your debts is that eventually it will all catch up with you regardless of how careful you are. One answer is negotiation. If you are finding that you are being constantly plagued by creditors, it maybe a good idea to write a letter acknowledging your debt and request a possilbe extension on your payments.
What is important is if you now start to make scheduled payments, this will help you pay down your debt and build up your credit. If you arrange a program to pay back the debt it is eventually paid in full. Then you will never have to worry about creditors or collection agencies again.
The creditors are giving you a second chance so it is extremely important to not ever miss a payment when the creditors acquire back your debt. Whenever you phone your creditors and inquire about taking back your debt and the creditor then refuses you but gives, you the chance to contact the debt collection agency to set up a payment plan then it would be advantageous to take that opportunity. And if by chance you are fortunate enough to hear from the creditor and the creditor takes back your debt after you paid off the collection agency, you are then taking the very important step to rebuilding your credit.
If you really want to avoid having to deal with all the troubles of a debt collection agency then first deal with the creditors.
