The stress that accompanies repeated failed attempts to conceive is a natural part of the process. Frustration and sometimes anger come along for the ride. This is why you may hear friendly advice that urges either the man or woman to simply relax and quit struggling so hard to make sex about making babies. The situation at hand is that infertility causes stress rather than stress causing infertility. No matter how relaxed you may get before sex, if you or your partner is not capable of producing children as a result of the union means that you will not produce children. Simple as that.
Speaking of infertility in either your or your partner, there seems to be a rather bizarre belief shared by many people that infertility is usually the fault of the woman. This idea no doubt was started by men who feel that the inability to produce enough sperm to conceive a child is a knock against their masculinity. Both men and women are responsible for not being able to have a baby. Consider the split to be roughly half and half. One thing is for certain: it is not usually the fault of the female! As for masculinity attacks, infertility has nothing to do with it. A men incapable of producing children does not necessarily have lower levels of testosterone. In fact, more infertile men have normal or above average levels of testosterone than have lower than average levels.
Another strange falsehood about problems conceiving has to do with the power of the female orgasm. Legends abound that if a woman cannot produce an orgasm then she also cannot produce a baby. This belief probably stems from the fact that the biological process of having an orgasm does tend to benefit the ability of sperm to get to its destination. That fact aside, there is no evidence at all that a woman must have an orgasm in order to get pregnant.
One myth concerning infertility that many men will no doubt love to hear has been debunked is a certain level of conventional wisdom that you can increase the potential for conception by refraining from ejaculation before you and your partner are ready to attempt conception. Sometimes this myth suggests that a man should not ejaculate at all for up to a week before sex. The wisdom attached here, and it probably does seem to make a certain kind of sense to many, is that the more a man ejaculates, the less sperm he's got on hand and the less sperm he has means a reduction in the possibility of conception. Actually, the opposite is true. Increasing your sexual relationship to three or four times a week is going to mean more sperm inside an ovulating woman than saving it all up for a once a week shot.
