Debut for Brooklyn Bridge Park Community Advisory Council

Though this week marks the debut of the Brooklyn Bridge Park Community Advisory Council, the organization has hit the ground running.

The first meeting, consisting of all 25 members present, on October 26 was an eventful one with not one, but two, resolutions passing. Each issue concerned the choices made by the Brooklyn Bridge Park Corporation in regards to the reuse of the old Tobacco Warehouse that stands inside the park's boundaries.

Wondering why the advisory council was formed? Many people, especially the corporation's board, believed that the committee was needed to keep things in perspective. The decisions made by the board do affect many different communities throughout the borough.

The council's first meeting was held at St. Francis College with a fresh copy of its bylaws handy. Nancy Webster, who serves as executive director of the BBP Conservancy, and John Dew, who serves as chairman of Community Board 2, co-chair the committee.

The next meeting of the council is scheduled for January 4.
