December 10th: The Most Common Day for UFO Sightings?

V. Sanders,
Seen anything strange in the skies lately? If so, you may not have been alone.December 10, 2007 may not have been a calendar holiday, but for paranormal researchers and UFO enthusiasts it deserves to be marked in red. It appears that a multitude of sightings were recorded on that day, in fact almost enough to cover the entire United States. If these reports hold up to scrutiny and remain 'unexplained' December 10, 2007 would be one of the most widespread UFO events to date~ but these are not the first December 10 sightings to make headlines.

According to the National UFO Reporting Center's website they received multiple accounts of an unidentified object that was seen across several states on December 10, 2007. The object reported to NUFOR appears to have been visible not only in Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, and Georgia, but also as far flung as Maine and Vermont. Though the reports come from across great distances they do bear amazing resemblances to each other. The reports show that people all over the East and Southeast saw this phenomenon, among them meteorologists and astronomers. While NUFOR states on their page that they suspect it may have been a spent rocket, at this time the sightings remain unexplained. See NUFOR's site to read the reports in detail and to watch for updates.

A youtube user has uploaded a filmed sighting from Kingman Arizona, taped on December 10. The film is uploaded in several parts, seven to be exact, and shows some pretty amazing footage of a strangely behaving object in the night sky. Note that the Kingman Arizona footage varies greatly from the description of the 'cigar' shaped object seen in numerous Eastern and Southeastern States.

Other December 10 sightings have occurred, and are well documented throughout the last century. On December 10, 1954 in Sicily, Italy a photographer snapped a great photograph of observers during a daylight UFO appearance. The picture is viewable with a bit of background information at UFOevidence.org. In the United Kingdom December 10 , 1963 marks the date of Europe's own 'Roswell' type mystery at Cosford Royal Airforce Base. The Cosford incident was reported as a landing in which a 'dome shaped' UFO touched down briefly, bathing the surrounding area in green light. The report stated that two apprentices had been able to examine the UFO at 'close quarters'. Of course the story has been questioned and changed over time so that no reasonable explanation can be believed. See the full story and links to other information here. Back in the United States December 10 sightings are easy to find with a quick google search.
The Hanford AEC plant was one of the hot spots for UFO sightings throughout the 1940's and 1950's, so it stands to reason that any good research on American sightings would begin there. On December 10, 1952 a pilot from Moses AFB reported seeing a strange light over the plant, while patrolling at about 26,000 feet. The story as reported on UFOlogie.net, tells that the pilot was able to see the object and that it was picked up on his own radar, but that the ground radar system did not detect it. The article also goes on to tell of the pilots approach, near collision with, and description of the object.

Searching for significant other world events that took place on the date of December 10 in any given year, yields enough results to fill a library~ but the most ironic of all is that in 1948 on December 10 the United Nations proclaimed and adopted the Universal Declaration Of Human Rights, and that the General Assembly began commemoration of the day as a holiday in 1950. How fascinating that on the day we chose to celebrate our unity as humans so many of us have looked to the heavens and seen something they construe as . . . inhuman.
