December 12 - National Ding a Ling Day

December 12 is the day for you to celebrate National Ding A Ling Day. Not like Christmas or July 4, there are no set traditions, themes or colors. But I'd suggest you take time to send out the invitations to celebrate this special day.

What is a ding a ling - you might say. Truth be told, a person who seems slightly off center is often called a ding a ling. Perhaps you've either said or thought that about someone not too long ago. Sometimes a ding a ling is thought of in the manner as "thing a ma jig" or other expressions that we've heard for decades.

Maybe you, like me, remember Chuck Berry's Ding A Ling song of about 30 years ago - he sings about "My Ding A Ling." I first heard this little ditty in Pat O'Brien's piano bar in New Orleans - just about that time. There was laughter and shouting and pointing and lots of hooting and hollering during this fun little song.

I would suggest you find a copy for your ding a ling party on December 12. It'll truly be a big hit.

Ding a ling is also the "voice" of the telephone - oh so many years ago. If you're younger you may not even understand what I'm talking about. We know today's phone ring can be modified for each individual and quite likely the ding a ling is still available. Phones didn't ring as often years ago so the ding a ling was sort of a surprise when it's music rang through the house. Most of us only had one telephone.

Decorations for a ding a ling party should include bright colors. Things a little "unique" could be used for the theme. And "my ding a ling" - should certainly liven things up.
