Every coordinator has different packages, services they offer and styles as well as methods of how they get things done. Typically a coordinator won't be able to give a solid quote over the phone since the pricing is so unique to your needs. A good coordinator will meet with you for free because the pricing is custom to your event and they should be excited about getting to know you and talking about your wedding dreams. Meeting the coordinator before booking is essential to ensure you will feel comfortable with one another.
Unfortunately there are those who think they would be great at doing weddings and will call themselves a Wedding Planner when really they've only helped a friend with hers. The reality is one's experience as a professional and being established and respected in the area says a lot for a coordinator's credibility.
Planning your wedding on your own can be time consuming to research all the options of vendors like cake makers, dress shops and caterers. Determining their quality and options can be a headache. A plus side to hiring a coordinator is they have had experiences with these businesses and can bring you the one's that are in your price range and meet your needs. This cuts out a lot of time for you when a person who has knowledge of what's out there can bring options to you.
A wedding planner is someone who stands as a buffer between you and the vendors. She knows what you want and she can express that to the vendor when questions or problems arise. There will be things that go wrong. The coordinator is there to do whatever it takes to fix it without worrying the bride. She is there to make the wedding happen and stands at an objective position to get things done so you can enjoy being engaged.
The best part about a wedding coordinator is they are there the day of the wedding and dedicated 100% to your stress free day. They wear many hats on the wedding day to do whatever needs to get done while you are blissfully enjoying yourself.
Hiring a coordinator could be the best thing you ever pay for. It depends on if you're budget includes a less stressful engagement. A coordinator is usually priced by taking a percentage of the total wedding costs. There are some coordinators who are more flexible and will only charge based on how many hours they put into your wedding.
