Decision Making

What Decisions Are You Making?

Kurt Evans
Decision making ability is something that we all have. Some of us are better at making decisions, than others.

Decision Making Ability

Decision making ability is something that needs to be practiced daily. We make a decision every time we get out of bed. Some decisions are easier to make than others.

Benefits And Consequences Of Decisions

We're constantly weighing the benefits and consequences of our decisions. If we don't get out of bed during the night to use the bathroom, then we'll pee the bed. We'll wake up in a pool of urine and experience extreme discomfort. To remedy this, we make the decision to get out of bed in the middle of the night and use the toilet.

Results Of Our Decisions

We use decision-making ability when we choose what to eat and what to do with our day. We live with the results of our decisions throughout our life. When we use our decision- making ability, it's a constant learning process for us.

Good And Bad Choices

We learn from the good, and bad choices, we make when using our decision-making ability.

Habit

When we get into a habit of making decisions, like choosing to eat sugary and fatty foods because they make us feel good in the moment; these decisions can do us more harm than good, down the road.

Effects Of Our Decisions

The effects of our decisions are constantly being weighed, one on top of the other. One bad decision can cause the whole thing to fall down like a house of cards. It can have a domino effect and cause everything to go out of whack.

One Bad Decision

We don't want to see all of our hard work go down the drain, because we made one bad decision. This is why, it's important to take the time, to make decisions, wisely, because, one bad choice, can cause you to loose everything. When that happens, you have to start all over again, from the beginning.

From The Beginning

When we have to start all over again from the beginning, it often feels like an automated process for us because it's something that we've already done. Since, we already know, what we're doing, the second time around, we can make the decision to have a better attitude, if, we choose to do so. This would make, the activity, more enjoyable, but we can always also choose to be miserable. Being miserable isn't fun; I don't know why anyone would choose it.

The Decision To Choose Your Attitude

Some people would argue, that you don't have a decision to choose your attitude, that your attitude, chooses you, according to whatever life, hands you. These are the people who believe, in destiny, and believe that you don't have the power to change things, and they use that, as an excuse, to do nothing.

The Decision To Do Nothing

The decision to do nothing is a choice. It's not a good choice to make but it's still a choice.

Reality

No matter what decision we make, we will always see its affects in the reality we live in.

Play Games

Some of us choose to play games, and play the victim, and say that it was something that was beyond our control. Granted, there are circumstances that do happen in life, but you always make a decision on how you are going to react to these circumstances.

Practice Acceptance

If you decide to practice acceptance of your circumstances, then you are taking control of your world. It's when you have acceptance of your circumstances that you can start to set goals and decide where you want to go next.

Decide

When you decide on where you want to go next, you're setting a goal. When you can envision your self, reaching your goal, in your mind, you're making your resolve to reach your goal, stronger. This has an impact on you, by affecting your self-will, and how hard you go after the things that you desire.

The Reality Of Not Having A Goal

I'm sorry to say it; but the reality of not having a goal, is a plan to fail. When you don't know where you're going, how can you ever know, when you get, to where you want to be?

Setting And Achieving Goals

Unfortunately, setting and achieving goals, isn't taught in school. Setting and achieving goals is something that we need to figure out on our own.

What Setting Goals Does

Here's what setting goals does for us. A goal is a simple statement that identifies what we want or where we want to go. Setting goals, gives us destinations. Now, since we have a destination, we can plan the steps that we need to take to get there.

The Steps To Goals

The steps to goals are stepping-stones to success. When we get side tracked from our goals, sometimes; it's not easy to get back on track. Circumstances in life always happen and they could cause us to change our goals.

When Goals Change

When goals change, the stepping-stones will change as well. One event, will lead to another. This will often knock people off their path to their goal and then as they wander along with the circumstances of life they'll wonder what happened to their goal. Then, they'll go through a period of beating themselves up and convince themselves that goal setting isn't worth it, anyways.

Staying Focused On Goals

Staying focused on goals is vital to their achievement. Loss of focus on your goal can send you in an entirely different direction, if you let it.

Awareness

This is where awareness comes into play. Being aware of your circumstances and the actions that you're taking. Steering your life, in the direction that you want to go, is a lot like driving a car, without a clear path to drive on, you will go nowhere. Without the awareness of what your goal is and where it's taking you in life; you, will always end up, in a place, where you don't want to be.

Someday

Remember, "The road to someday, leads to a town of nowhere," Tony Robbins.

Whether right or wrong we have to live with our decisions.

Very nice. I wish that every one would think of what will happen when they make decisions. I tell my son every day to "make good choices" instead of just be good.

As someone who is not very good at setting goals, I was struck by your point about not having a goal being a plan for failure. Good point.

    Well done, cheers :)
