Deck the Halls: Hot Christmas Decorations for 2010

Amanda Abella
One of the best parts of the Christmas season is decorating your home. From setting up the Christmas tree and hanging the stockings to creating an outdoor light display, Christmas is definitely a time to get creative around the house. This year, be sure to spread some merry cheer around your home with some of the following decoration ideas.

White House Christmas Decorations

I already know what you are thinking, "It's impossible to have my house look like the White House! They have professional decorators come in!" While it is true that you don't live at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, you can still always use the White House Christmas decorations as inspiration. This year the White House Christmas theme is "Simple Gifts." Many of the decorations-including the Christmas trees- are made from recyclable materials while others have returned from previous years for encore appearances. Take a page out of the First Lady's book and make some of your own decorations with your kids or recycle materials for decorations. Green and All-Natural Christmas Decorations

Green is more than just a color this holiday season, it's a statement. Bring the outdoors inside this year with all-natural ornaments and decorations. Take those nuts, pinecones, and fruits and turn them into beautiful centerpieces for the home. Create woodland scenes by branching together spruces and branches. Take empty bottles and jars and turn them into candle holders for a serene and peaceful feel. Lastly, combine colors like chartreuse and celadon with metallic accents to highlight the green in your décor this year. Outdoor Christmas Décor

Check out your local home improvement stores for the latest in outdoor holiday decorations. Find anything from Santa and his reindeer to nativity sets and stars. Get together with some of your neighbors and turn your entire block into a winter wonderland. Outdoor décor is a great way to bring some holiday cheer to the neighborhood and is a big hit with kids.

Elegant Christmas Decorations

Traditional Christmas decorations create a timeless elegant look for your home. Use white lights, roses, and small wrapped gifts to decorate around the home. As for a color palette, use gold and white around the home with accents of red and green for a perfect combination of elegant and traditional.
