Decorate Your Bathroom like a Spa: Get that Spa Feeling at Home

M. Kaye Hash
So you went and visited a spa on your vacation, and now you want the same feeling. But you spent all your money on that vacation? You can have that spa feeling at home just by using items you already have around your house.

Spas make you feel good about yourself, from their scent to the low lighting that makes everyone look better. It is about recreating this effect and stretching that vacation feeling a little longer that makes you want to have a spa in your own bathroom.

Candles are a great way to achieve low light without changing the bulbs in your bathroom. Gather up candles from around your house and place them around your bathroom. Candles with scents that you find calming and soothing will help add to the scent of the bathroom, unless you have potpourri or incense you can use. If you do not have any scented candles or incense then you can gather flower petals from your yard to dry and use later as potpourri. Candles will give a wonderful spa feel to your room, as well as romantic, but remember to put them out when you leave the room.

Epsom bath salts can be used to make a scented and relaxing bath but if you do not have any you could use some flower petals sprinkled in the bath. If neither of these is available then just using some dish soap will make an excellent bubble bath.

When you enter a spa do you see multiple, half used bottles of stuff, lining the counters? Of course not, then clean off your bathroom sink! Put the essentials in a basket and store the rest under the sink. If it is stuff you use every day then place it in another basket you can place on the sink and return to under the sink when you're done.

Another favorite of the spa are the giant towels that are so comfortable yet very expensive to buy. Make your own by sewing two or three of your own towels together. This will give you the feeling of wrapping yourself up without having to drain your bank account. If you are talented I'm sure you can even make a robe out of your towels! At the very least roll your best towels up and place them in a basket on your sink.

Your guests may even benefit from some spa or hotel room ideas in your extra bathroom. All of those sample sized products you get in your Christmas stocking can be placed with some rolled towels in a basket. This way if they forgot anything such as toothpaste, it is right there for them and they don't have to hunt you down and explain that they forgot deodorant.

See what you can find around your house to give yourself a mini vacation in your own home. It doesn't have to cost anything for you to walk in your bathroom and feel at least a little like you are walking into a relaxing spa.

I love spas and hotels, these are nice tips. Making a change to your home decor can really cheer you up, so my husband and I change things a lot. Good ideas.

I would love this, however I am constantly interrupted! With four kids I can barely do what I have to in the bathroom. LOL

I love the idea of making your bathroom into your own private spa! We've tried to create that type of atmosphere in our master bath.
