It was only a few weeks ago when my sister asked me if I would draw a layout of what her daughter's room could look like if she decorated her bedroom a certain way. This was a fun project for me to tackle.
You can do the same for your kid's room, too. You don't have to do this exactly as I did, and there are so many variances.
The main goal in the design of this room was to get the chair rail section painted red, and then to find a border to have the look of what my niece wanted. My sister was dead set against having the border a certain width.
With all these factors taken in, we also had to convince my niece that it would turn out better if the walls had the lower part in red. This would accent the furniture and border in her room much better than if it was left white.
I had to quickly draw up what this could look like, and have it ready before my niece was to leave for vacation with her sister. Using felt tip pens, markers, and a reference for the Coca-Cola logo, I went to work drawing just enough to let her see what it would look like.
The drawing part began taking too long on the checkered racing border, so I only did a small section. The idea came to me that I could do this much faster on the computer. With a few quick cut and paste tricks, the four walls came together.
MS Paint was the program I used since I still don't know how to use my design program all that well. It would be nice as I could show you a 3D look at how the room would turn out.
Should you have such a program and know how to use it, this will come much easier and quicker for you.
Sometimes all you need is a quick sketch to get your layout on paper, and a reference to go by. Some people are just good at doing the work without any such reference.
My reason for drawing things out is to find the least amount of work that needs to be done in a short amount of time. With the Coca-Cola logo drawn out a few times, you will get the feel for drawing it, and then painting it on the wall.
Sure, Coca-Cola may have logos and borders at their website, but you are going to spend a bunch of money. Finding Coca-Cola memorabilia to hang on the wall will be fun once you know exactly where you want them.
You can make some red or black wall shelving to hold vintage bottles that you find or some decorative plates. There are even wall switch plates, and outlet plates for sale online.
As mentioned earlier there is a multitude of ways to decorate a bedroom for a child. Should you be talented enough, you could make a mockup diner table and chairs to go near the bedroom window.
Turning a section of the bedroom into a diner would add more of that Coca-Cola flair in decoration. Maybe you have an old neon sign of theirs. That would look good on the wall once it is cleaned up.
You could print off old pictures from the internet onto card stock paper, and frame them in a patterned fashion. You could also print off pictures of famous actors and actresses in black and white.
A line of these photos in the same style frame would give the bedroom a popular visiting feel to it, such as the Brown Derby in California has. With all the new commercials that have come out over the year, polar bears and penguins would be cute to add.
Many people are parting with their Coca-Cola tin serving plates at flea markets and antique stores. You could even make a wall rack to hold old magazines with their ads on the front.
A good basic design plan, like my niece's, incorporated another of her favorite collectables. John Deere was her first serious collection. We gave it a corner all of its own in the bedroom.
What good a bedroom like this be without a Coca-Cola clock? Black or white furniture are a great accent to this bedroom. Off the wall colors in other items are what also make her room unusual.
A lime-green semi-sphere chair, yellow beanbag, blue gaming chair, and futon do not leave much room for dancing and having friends over. Silver, black or white computer looks great in this room, too.
Black ceiling fan blades with brushed silver casing truly accents the stark white ceiling. The glow-in-the-dark stars also would make any child want to stay up a little late gazing at their ceiling, while trying not to fall asleep.
My niece has an eclectic sense of decorating. She also put up her orange and purple lava lamp, blue fiber-optic lamp, and a disco ball light in various places of the room. What a hodge podge style of decorating!
I suggested accenting the ceiling and wall AC/heat vents by painting them a silver or chrome color. My idea was shot down quickly. I even mentioned changing out the hinges and knobs on the door for the same effect. Again, shot down.
Oh well. I do go all out when I get an idea in my head. This was a fun room to help paint, and watch being decorated by my niece. She had a blast with it. Now she invites her friends over more often.
Have fun decorating your bedroom in a Coca-Cola fashion. The ideas are limitless in how it can turn out. Plan ahead before you begin spending that hard-earned money.
