Brighten up your bedroom. "The first thing people think of when spring comes to mind is adding more light to their interiors," says interior designer Kate Byer. "This can be done on a budget by changing out or adding new decorative pillows, lamp shades and vases. Changing tablecloths for nightstands is another way to change a bedroom from winter to spring."
Question the candles in your spring bedroom. Some interior designers advise changing out your bedroom candles. "Change the candleholders and the candle colors," says Pamela Fletcher of Garden Home Interiors in Portland, Oregon. Others find candles do not mesh well with the fresh and clean feeling of spring. "Candles -- get rid of them," advises interior designer Lyn Peterson. "They seem so dusty and used in the brighter light of spring."
Add spring texture. "For bedrooms, you don't need to buy a completely new set of bedding or an expensive new comforter," says Nicole Wexler of Turquoise Decor in Seattle. "Instead, change the look of the room by bringing in new texture or patterns with pillows and a throw."
Spring into new bedding. "Some great options can be found at www.thecompanystore.com," Wexler says. "I like the Vista Matelassé coverlet and matching shams available in no less than nine spring colors for $24 to $119. Ikea's duvet sets start at only $9.99. If you are able to spend a little more, Target has a great new collection of bedding called Bed by Conran. If you want to invest in a new duvet set, take a look at the Domino duvet set for a bold splash of color for $99 to $149.99."
"For the bedroom, change your bed linen, throw pillows and one or two accent pieces, and don't forget your bathroom," advises Beverly Freeman at The BLF Group in Douglasville, Ga.
Scents of spring. "If possible, put a fragrant arrangement in the bedroom beside the bed," Fletcher says. "This can be a single bloom such as a daffodil."
"And instead of buying new accessories, purchase fresh flowers weekly, rotating pretty vases," adds Norma Lehmeier Hartie, author of "Harmonious Environment: Beautify, Detoxify & Energize Your Life, Your Home & Your Planet."
Redecorate with introverted colors. "Think color changes for spring," Hartie says. "The introverted colors -- blues, purples and bright greens -- are calming and soothing and slow heart rate, perfect for warm months. Conversely, the extroverted colors -- reds, yellows and oranges -- increase heart rate and are good when it's cold."
