Decorate with Christmas Stockings This Holiday Season

Lisa Riggs
The holiday stockings hung on the mantel are usually the first place children go to on Christmas morning. Stuffed with small gifts and treats, these traditional symbols of the holiday can be used throughout the house to bring a little Christmas cheer to every room. Here are some ideas on how you can easily incorporate these seasonal items into all your room's decor this holiday season.

Christmas Stockings Can Help to Keep Your Kitchen Neat.

Hang a holiday stocking near your stove to hold large cooking utensils such as spatulas, wooden spoons and whisks. Allow the top of the utensils to peek out over the top of the stocking for a fun and unique holiday decoration. If you traditionally use a wicker basket to hold incoming mail in your kitchen, place a bright and colorful Christmas stocking in it's place. Be sure the body of it is too deep that the utility bill or mortgage statement falls down to the bottom and is forgotten. A pretty holiday stocking can be hung from the oven door to hold potholders or dishtowels to keep them handy will preparing the turkey dinner.

Holiday Stockings Will Hold Your Bathroom Essentials for Guests.

The holiday season means more visitors to your home. This translates into the need for additional soap, hand towels and paper products. Instead of hiding these items under the sink so that your guests are forced to look for them when needed, use a holiday stocking to keep them within reach. Simply use a glitter pen to write the words "Soap, Towels and Tissue" on the white band of the stocking and then fill it with all your extra toiletries. Hang it in a prominent place of the room and allow a few of the products to peek out from the top. Your guests will appreciate the convenience of being able to restock your powder room as needed, and this fun toiletry holder will add a bit of holiday fun to the bathroom.

A Christmas Stocking Makes a Great Holder for Hair Accessories in a Girl's Bedroom.

Does your tween or teen daughter have a ton of hair accessories that are scattered on the dresser and fall on the floor? Corral those ponytail holders, clips and headbands in a festive holiday stocking. Hang it off a bedpost or from a hook near her mirror so that they are close at hand but neatly organized too.

Keep Extra Napkins and Table Setting Essentials in a Holiday Stocking in the Dining Room.

If you are hosting several holiday meals this year, you will need to keep plenty of silverware, place mats and napkins on hand for drop in guests and messes that occur while enjoying dinner. Hang a stocking on your sideboard or from a corner of the china cabinet to keep these items within reach during the holidays.

A Christmas Stocking Can Hold Art Supplies in a Playroom.

Keep those crayons, markers and pads of paper off the floor and convenient for little hands by stuffing them in a pretty holiday stocking. Install a small hook low enough for the kids to reach easily and then hang the holiday stocking filled with art supplies from it. Your kids will love the splash of holiday cheer in their space and you will love being able to run the vacuum without bending down constantly to retrieve a stray marker or crayon.

Use a Stocking to Hold Extra Tree Ornaments in the Living Room.

Between decorating the tree and taking it down, you will invariably need to replace a broken ornament or two. Keep those holiday balls and wooden ornaments close at hand by storing them in a decorative Christmas stocking. Hang it from a curtain rod or on the entertainment center to add an extra bit of decor to the room and keep those ornaments within reach.
