How to Decorate Your Christmas Tree on a Budget

Bev Cohen
Decorating your Christmas tree can be expensive. Ornaments are costly. And it seems as though a tree needs a lot of ornaments to make it look fully decorated. Your Christmas tree is there for all to see and admire usually for several weeks around Christmas time, so you want it to look good. If you don't have the budget to buy ornaments to decorate your tree, this article deals with some ways to decorate it for free. There are items in your home that you can use to decorate your tree with.

A great way to decorate your Christmas tree is with Christmas cards. As you receive cards from family and friends during the holiday season, put them on your tree rather than placing them on a counter or a table. You can place the cards individually on the Christmas tree or you can string the cards on a piece of red or green yarn and wrap them around your tree.

Another way to decorate your Christmas tree is with scarves. Tie your scarves together and wrap it around your tree like you would garland.

If you have ribbon around your home, you can use that to decorate. You can either string it like garland or make the ribbon into bows and hang them on your tree. This can look very pretty on your tree, especially if you use several different color bows.

Use pasta as Christmas tree ornaments. Use a piece of yarn and thread rigatoni noodles onto it. Wrap it around your tree like you would garland. If you have paint or glitter, you can use these on the noodles before you string them onto the yarn.

Pine cones make a wonderful addition to a tree in need of ornaments. They can be placed on the tree as is or can be spray painted to give them additional pizazz.

Candy is a great way to decorate your tree. Candy seems to fill many of our homes at Christmas time. If you have some candies that are wrapped in bright colors, just put an ornament hook through one end and hang them on your tree. Of course, candy canes look perfect on a tree as a decoration also.
