Decorate a Cute Coca-Cola Trinket Box

Turn a Plain Ordinary Box into a Decorated Gift

Harold Dean Sink
Decorating a trinket box to have a Coca-Cola theme to it is a fun project that may take as long as an hour to an hour and a half. This all depends on how you go about decorating it.

The suggested materials are:

Sandpaper

A hinged top bare wood box

Acrylic titanium white paint

½" wide bristle brush

Red or maroon felt (one to two sheets)

Liquid laminate or Elmer's white glue

Scissors

Ballpoint pen

Metal ruler

Coca-Cola stickers, etc. used for scrapbooking

The first step to get through is making certain the wooden box is smooth, and that it does not have any splinters anywhere on it. Sand down any rough edges. When you are done sanding, take a moist cloth and wipe off any sanding residue left on the box.

When the box is dry it can then be painted. White is a good color to show off the Coca-Cola stickers that will be placed on the trinket box later on. Do not worry about painting the inside since the felt will line the box.

The trick with painting the trinket box is to paint the bottom of it first or last. Either way it would be best to paint it so the paint does not have an edge to start flaking off from.

Paint the inside edges where the lid and box meet. Try not to paint the hinges as this will cause them to stick and wear them out quickly over time. Once the box is painted, let it completely dry. You may find that it needs a second or third coat of paint.

Measure the inside of the lid and box for length, width and depth. These will determine the measurements of the strips of felt to cut out.

The top will have five pieces of liner unless you are really savvy and can cut one continuous piece to go around the edge. In that cause there will only be two pieces.

The bottom will have five pieces as well. Go ahead and cut out the pieces of felt after you have marked out the measurements on it, and set them aside for pasting. It might me a good idea to lay them in place to see if you cut the pieces correctly.

Start by pasting the bottom piece in first so that the side piece(s) will cover up any shortness of cutting. Go ahead and paste the felt pieces for the sides in next. Whether or not you started with the lid or the box continue onto the next one.

This liner will need some time to dry, but you can go ahead and layout where you want the stickers placed on the box. Spend some time debating where they will look best at, since peeling them off may take some of the paint with them.

When the decision is final on where to place the stickers, carefully position them in place and press them onto the box. The back and bottom of the box obviously do not need to be decorated.

Voila! You are done! You have managed to decorate an ordinary trinket box into a masterpiece! Congratulations!

But wait! Why not autograph the bottom of it with your initials? That would really be nice if you are giving this as a gift to someone.
