Add Curtains to Your Home
There is no simpler, or less expensive way, to beautify your home than to accents rooms with curtains. Before you begin adding up how much those Martha Stewart curtains cost at the mall, realize that a simple curtain can be made with any fabric and a sturdy curtain rod. In other words, before you run to the mall or department store, scope out your closets, the local thrift shop, or even yard sales for potential curtains. Just give the fabric a quick wash before you hang the curtains.
Tablecloths, sheets, blankets, and hemmed fabrics can all serve as curtains. You can opt to sew loops to the top of the fabric, or to find hooks to hang the curtains on the rods. You may even want to simply hang the curtains, using only clips to keep them in place (a dorm room favorite).
For ambience, decorate by adding sheer curtains that allow some light in, or if you prefer a darkened bedroom, find dark fabrics like black, brown, or other dark colors for your curtains. Children's rooms are the easiest to decorate with curtains. You can use colorful sheets with fun characters or shapes on them as curtains. Decorate using layers, like bright yellow curtains layered with lavender curtains and tied with a colorful sash.
Decorate Drab Tables in Your Home with Original Tablecloths
Search local thrift shops, your closet, and craft stores for inexpensive fabrics that can be used as tablecloths. You might even find enough fabric to make both curtains and tablecloths. All you need to know how to do is sew a basic hem for any fabric edges that do not have a hem.
Decorate Your Home with Posh Figurines and Artwork for Only a Few Dollars
Longing to decorate your home Southwest Indian, French Country, Asian Fusion, or Contemporary? You do not need to buy an entire set of matching furniture, figurines, and paintings from the local furniture store to create the right look. Instead, get ideas about decorations that would fit your interior decorating style best from the internet. Print up a few ideas, then head to your local thrift shop and yard sales. That antique doll for $5 might fit wonderfully with the Victorian Era decor in your child's room, or maybe that abstract black and white painting fits beautiful into your contemporary style living room.
Realize you may have to do a little bit of patching or mending to some items, plus some cleaning before you can decorate. With a little bit of creativity and imagination you can decorate your home with inexpensive figurines, paintings, pottery, and glassware and make your home look like a million bucks!
