Decorate Your House with 4th of July Window Treatments

One of the easiest ways to show your Independence Day spirit is by showing the reds, whites, and blues. For people wanting to dress their house up, it can sometimes be difficult. Here are some ideas for window treatments that'll show your spirit in the house and outside of it!

The first thing most people think of when window treatments are mentioned is curtains. If you already have curtains in your home, then you're a step ahead! If not, and if you want to put some up, then it'll take a little bit of work. You'll need curtain rods! Make sure your landlord is okay with you doing this, if you're renting. Any home improvement store can get you set up with something simple, just make sure you have a leveler (even a yardstick will work) if you don't have a good eye. Once you get the curtain rods up, you're ready to go.

Now you need fabric! You can get it online, but I suggest a fabric store, or even a Wal-Mart, where you can get lots of colors and styles, and you can see them in person. Get enough for the pattern you choose. There are free patterns here. There are patterns for long curtains, short curtains, halves, and even the pretty bows that hold the curtains. For people who can't sew, try picking up some old curtains at a thrift shop and attach some patches of material to them, or even dye them. RIT dye can be found in the laundry detergent aisle at most stores, and you only need a washing machine to use it.

You can also paint the curtain rods to match, if you don't mind having them colored or replacing them. Try red and white stripes, or blue with white stars if you're feeling very ambitious. To not paint them at all, get some ribbon and wrap it tightly around the rod so that you can but curtains over it.

Now, if you're all right with spending a little bit more money, get yourself an extra set of white blinds. Close them, and paint them. It'll look great whether they're open or closed. You can either paint freehand, or use stencils, stamps, or paint sponges to get your desired effect. Paint both sides of it so it shows inside and out.

This is a fun and extremely customizable way to decorate your windows for the 4th of July. Have a safe and happy holiday.

Great idea. Sheets work great for curtains on a budget and they are already hemmed. :)
