Decorate a Vinyl Cat Witch for Halloween

Lyn McCallister

Vinyl figurines are a new way to add some quick and easy interest to your Halloween decor. These figurines are blank, allowing you to customize as much or as little as you want. The heads are detachable so you can paint the head while the body section dries and vice versa. The arms can be moved up or down, giving you the ability to add charming Halloween accents to your figurine.

I found four styles of blank vinyl figures for decorating at my local Michaels craft store. These figurines include the witch cat (directions and photo featured in this article), a pumpkin head, Frankenstein, and a bat. These figures are available now for early Halloween projects so pick them up while you can. Each one cost $1.99.

This Halloween decorating project is great for kids. If you are having a party, consider picking one up for each child for a safe indoor activity that does not involve sugar!

Step-by-Step Directions to Decorate a Vinyl Cat Witch for Halloween

Hint: Refer to the article photo for an example of how I decorated my cat using these directions.

1. Detach the head from the body. Sounds very gruesome, I know, but it will help you to paint the cat!

2. Paint the entire body, except for the paws, using the purple metallic paint.

3. Set aside to dry.

4. Paint the witch's hat using the purple metallic paint.

5. Set aside to dry.

6. Paint a second coat using the purple metallic paint on both the body and the hat and allow to dry completely.

7. Paint the hat band using the black paint.

8. Paint the cat's hair, eyes, nose, mouth, and whiskers using the black paint.

9. Allow the head to dry.

10. Paint a decorative black zigzag line around the tummy section of the body.

11. Paint the cuff area around the paws as well as the boots of the foot using the black paint.

12. Allow the body to dry.

13. Apply larger dark green adhesive rhinestones to the middle of each eye outline.

14. Apply small light green adhesive rhinestones to the black band around the hat.

15. Apply medium light green adhesive rhinestones near the zigzag line around the body.

16. Attach the head to the body.

17. Glue the witch wand to one paw.

18. Glue the book of spells to the other paw.

19. Add your adorable witch kitty cat to your Halloween decor!
