Decorate with Wineglasses This Christmas

Lisa Riggs
Wine drinkers love to fill their cupboard shelves with lovely and unique wine glasses. Over time, some get broken or misplaced and full sets get reduced to only or two. Since these singular glasses don't often get pulled out for holiday parties, they can be used to add a touch of class and sophistication to Christmas decor. Here are some fun ways to decorate your home for the holiday season using simple or decorated wine glasses.

Use Wineglasses as Picture Frames. Wallet sized photos can be taped to the inside of a glass for a unique and festive picture frame. Reduce the size of your favorite holiday photo and tape it to the inside of the glass. Fill the glass halfway with red or white decorative rocks behind the photo. A flickering candle behind it will beautifully illuminate the image of your loved one.

Fill a Glass with Tiny Wrapped Presents. If you have a ton of tiny gift boxes appropriate for jewelery, you can put them to good use this year with this unique table centerpiece. Wrap the boxes in foil paper and top with a thin piece of ribbon and a tiny bow. Cut a round piece of white or green felt to place in the bottom of the wine glass. Artfully arrange the tiny little holiday gifts on the felt, allowing the top of a few to peek out over the rim of the glass. This adorable little holiday decoration will surely catch the eye of your Christmas guests.

Layer Beads or Bells in a Wineglass. Gold or silver beads can be layered in a glass to give your holiday table a bit of sparkle. Miniature bells that are normally used for tree ornaments can be used instead. Both of these simple seasonal decor items will add a bit of panache to your home for a Christmas Eve dinner or a New Year's Eve bash.

Use a Glass as a Holiday Candy Bowl. Large and deep wineglasses make perfect candy dishes over the holidays. Mints, ribbon candy and foil wrapped chocolates can be layered in a large glass and placed on an end table, sideboard or mantle to offer hungry visitors a sweet snack. A few candy canes can be hung off the rim of a glass filled with cellophane wrapped peppermints for a very fun look.

Fill A Wineglass with Some of Nature's Gifts. Many of us love to decorate with seasonal items from nature for the holidays. A simple but lovely holiday decoration can be made with a wineglass and a few items found right outside. Make a bed of holiday greenery at the bottom and then layer tiny pine cones and bunches of berries all the way to the rim. Be sure to place several items against the sides so that the contents of the glass can be easily seen from all angles. A few cinnamon sticks can be inserted as well, to give the decor piece a very fragrant aroma.
