Decorating for a Baby Shower

Lisa Jones
Baby showers have been a tradition for many centuries. When they first became popular, these types of parties were given for only the mother-to-be. Today, baby showers have grown to incorporate the father of the baby as well as other children that the couple may have.

When the gender of the baby-to-be has not been determined yet, then the decorations should stay neutral. One great theme for this type of party is little yellow ducks. These little ducks are not gender specific and will brighten up any party. A centerpiece is usually placed on each table at the shower. The theme of this event even comes in the form of candles. When these are placed in a pretty bowl of water they can make the perfect centerpiece for decorating the tables at the baby shower. Yellow and white streamers will match the duck baby shower décor perfectly and could be strung from the ceiling for the party. Little ducks could also be used as part of the baby shower games. A number could be written on the bottom of a duck and the person holding the one, with the number that is drawn, could win a prize. Plates, napkins and cups can all be purchased to match the ducky décor theme perfectly.

If the gender of the baby-to-be has been determined the baby shower can become gender specific. There are several gender specific baby shower themes. For a shower that is for a couple that is going to have a baby boy a baby shower can be given with a sailor theme. Streamers of blue and white along with balloons of matching colors can highlight this baby shower. For unique baby shower decorations with the sailor décor Plates, cups and napkins can be purchased with the same colors as the streamers carry. There are also plates that have tiny blue anchors on them. These will tie in perfectly with the rest of the baby shower décor theme. There are also party banners that are on the market which have the little sailor theme on them.

A baby shower that is centered on the upcoming birth of a baby girl the décor theme could be ladybugs. Ladybugs can be found on napkins, cups and plates to get the party decorations started. These can be found in red and black or black and pink colors. Matching streamers can be purchased to match the plates as well as balloons. Banners were created with the ladybug theme especially for use at baby showers.
