Decorating a Children's Dinosaur Bedroom Inexpensively

Cheap Tricks to Create Fun Style

As many parents know, the tastes and likes of children change as they grow. In one moment, a child can be completely obsessed with racecars. The next? Dinosaurs. While changing their bedroom decor every time their mood changes can be quite expensive, there are a few ways you can create a dinosaur bedroom theme quite inexpensively.

Wall Paint

Decorating the walls and painting can get quite costly if the theme of the child's bedroom changes often. Instead, choose a color that is neutral enough to fit several different designs. Tans are always easy to work with in a variety of different themes, as are soft blues and greens. Benjamin Moore's Dill Pickle is a light green paint that is perfect for a dinosaur themed room, yet will still work with a bunch of other themes later on as the child grows.

Wall Decoration

For wall decoration, look no further than your local fabric shop and a coloring book! Choose a dinosaur design or two or three from a coloring book of this theme. Use a copy machine to make several copies of the same design. With these copies, create applique templates onto fabric pieces. Remember to think of each element of the design as a layer, with a paper copy of the coloring book design being used per layer. (Example: One paper template for eyes, one for the body, one for the head, one for the teeth, etc.) Cut out the designs and spray the back of each fabric piece with spray adhesive. Adhere the design layers in order to create an applique design of the dinosaur illustration. Attach the design either in photo frames with the glass removed or using wall paper adhesive directly onto the wall.

Bedding

The easiest way to create a dinosaur theme inexpensively is to choose neutral color bedding. Again, tans, greens, and blues all work. Use a dinosaur themed fabric to create throw pillows, a duvet cover, or more. Stick to solid color sheets, pillowcases, and curtains.

Get Creative Inexpensively

A simple trip to your local thrift store or flea market can probably net you a pair of lamps, a simple dresser, or other item that can enable you to be creative. Add scrapbook store embellishments, paper, or fabric to the items to add that coveted dinosaur theme. For added fun in decorating cheap accessories, hot glue plastic dinosaur toys onto the items themselves.

While your child's tastes may change frequently, the designs mentioned above are inexpensive enough to be easily replaced on a whim or altered to fit the new style of the bedroom.
