Decorating a Child's Bedroom in a Sky Theme

If you would like to make your child's bedroom into a cloud oasis, you will need to do a little planning. Room decorating can be hard work, but with planning you will know what to buy and from where, what to build, and how to make the room come together. Your child will be dreaming of the clouds in the clouds. Here are a few ideas for decorating a child's bedroom in a sky theme.

Before decorating a child's room in a sky theme, decide if you want all clouds or if you would like to include the sun or a rainbow on the walls. If you choose one wall to paint a large sun on and the other wall to paint a large rainbow on, make sure you paint those walls a solid background color. If you are painting the room in all clouds, you can either paint the walls a solid color with clouds on the wall, or sponge paint the room and still include specific areas for clouds. Sponge painting will make the room look textured.

Once you have decided what items to include in the sky theme, you can start painting. The best type of paint to use in a child's room is a semi-gloss latex paint. The walls will be easier to repaint and with a semi-gloss paint you will not notice painting mistakes as easily.

Lowe's, Home Depot, and Sherwin Williams have interior paint. Wal-mart sales interior paints for a bargain and the paint does not need to last a lifetime. Children change their tastes every couple of years. Inexpensive paint will work the best for a child's room.

The ceiling could either be painted white or you could draw clouds on it. You may want to paint the ceiling a dark blue or black and put the glow in the dark stars on the ceiling. Then hang "clouds" made of cotton. Craft stores such as Michael's and even Wal-mart will have cotton pads. You can shape the cotton pads and hang them from the ceiling to make clouds. This will be a realistic effect as the child sits or lies in bed. The child can help shape the clouds for his or her bedroom.

Most people when decorating rooms consider the floors to be a problem. Use the floors as a starting point and work with them. If you are not changing the carpet in the bedroom, use the carpet to choose the darkness or lightness of your wall colors. If there is tile in the bedroom any colors will work and the room will look bright. If you use dark colors you may want to keep one wall light or even use mirrors.

If you are making a sky theme, you can find comforters with clouds or even solid light blue comforters will work. You may want to purchase white dressers or bookshelves. If you were not going to change the furniture, white paint will work wonders. This will make the theme complete. Local stores such as Wal-mart, Lowe's, and Home Depot should have the paint or the furniture you will need.

Remember when decorating in a sky theme for your child's bedroom you can use solid colors such as blue or white if you cannot find cloud materials. You can also paint existing furniture in a sky theme. Your child's room will look like a showcase to the skies.
