One of the most ignored places in the house is the fireplace when it comes to decoration. The fireplace is more than just a place where one can put a mantel. There are so many creative designs that one can come up with to make the fireplace the most outstanding part of the lounge or sitting room.

So, where does one start when they want to decorate the fireplace?

First of all, notice how the fireplace looks. Note the type of material that has been used to build the fireplace. Note color schemes that could match if given the chance to design the fireplace with decorative objects and colors. Take not of the paintingt, if the bricks look rusty or something can be done about them. Generally step number 1 is a survey of the place to be decorated. This is an easy task that can be done in a matter of hours.

After noting these things, if there are brick or blocks of stone that need to be repaired, get a mason to do that and don't attempt to do it yourself. In process, one can get the mason to fix for the fireplace mantel and see how it fits to the project of decoration. The mantel should complement the fireplace and all other objects that will be added to make it stand out.

The mantel is usually at eye level. This means that whatever decoration is put, it must really be eye-catching i.e. it should be able to steal attention from all other parts of the room at eye-level and focal point should be that place. With research and help of an internal designer, one can get great designs and decorations for the fireplace. Here are some quick tips that one can use to decorate their fireplaces:

- Make sure that decorative accessories are balanced (use of a mirror would be good

- Use black fireplace paint to paint the inside of the fireplace

- If wood is usually used for when warming the house, use of a hearth rug would be helpful to protect against falling embers.

- Mantel colors should not compete with look of the fireplace.

Take advantage of the time of year to decorate. When the Christmas holidays approach, using natural materials such as pine cones, mistle toe, and evergreen can lend a festive look. Don't forget the warmth of candles and other types of logs.

Its easy to make the fireplace and mantel an eye-catching part of your home decor by bringing it into the room more as a decorative statement.
