Decorating the Home for Christmas Without Using Electricity

10 Ideas for Decorations Throughout the Home

Jennifer Moore
Most everyone wants to save money on his or her electric bills. With the economy being what it is today, saving money seems to be at the top of everyone's list. How can we save on our electric bill right here at Christmas? I am going to show you how to decorate for Christmas without spending a dime in electricity.

One- I live in the middle of nowhere. My house sits on thirty acres of woods. On our property, we have running cedar. Running cedar can decorate a fireplace mantle or even over an entry door. It has a wonderful look and smell. You can dig up running cedar in any length that you may need.

Two- Pine cones are another great way to decorate for Christmas. Take a large clear vase and place the pine cones down on the inside. Next, add your favorite artificial poinsettia flowers to the vase. Sit it in the middle of a table or mantle. Place a small amount of running cedar around the bottom of the vase for an added effect and smell.

Three- I am sure some folks have small pails sitting around going to waste. Take some construction paper and make some colorful Christmas decorations that you glue to the pail. Next, dig a small cedar tree from the woods. I would say about six to eight inches tall. Place a small amount of dirt in the pail, then place the cedar tree into the pail, finish filling with dirt so that the pail is full. Next, you can add some small miniature decorations to the tree and sit it anywhere that you like.

Four- For homes that have large windows, snowflakes would look cute hanging down. Take some construction paper and make several snowflakes varying in size and shapes. Place a long enough string through the top of the flake, so that it will hang low in your windows.

Five- Doorways are a great place to hang mistletoe. Maybe you will get a Christmas kiss from your sweetie.

Six- Take an old worn out wreath and make it new again. Strip all of the old decorations off. Replace it with running cedar. Be sure to cover it up completely. Next, glue small pine cones around the wreath. Do not cover completely. Clip off the poinsettia flowers and glue them in between the pine cones. Use silver or gold ribbon to make a bow and glue to the top of the wreath.

Seven- For families who have guests for the Christmas holidays place running cedar in the bathrooms to give a fresh outdoor scent. Take a small tray and place a Christmas candle in the center. Next, place running cedar around the candle, so that the tray becomes full. Place tray on a counter or table in the bathroom.

Eight- Bay windows are great to decorate for Christmas. Place a candle in the center of the window. Next run garland up and around the window. Clip some poinsettia flowers off and place along the window surrounding the candle, add a few pine cones here and there to give a look and feel of the outdoors.

Nine- In the bedrooms of your home, place vases with poinsettia flowers on the nightstands.

Ten- For the homes that have stairs, run garland up and down the hand rails.

As you can tell, there is no electricity used with any of these ideas. These are all ideas I have for not wasting money on electricity this Christmas.

You are so talented! I have taken a look at a few of your articles, how do you come up with these ideas, they are fantastic. By the way, it is sickening to have 4 grown kids and grands and look as young as you do. I do not have either and I look like a granny. You look great. Talented and young looking, I think I hate you...jk...your great and your articles are inspiring. I have two left hand and am left handed, but I am going to try. Thanks for all the great goodies.
