When first moving into my new space I automatically assume that all my furniture and items would look great in my new space. I assumed wrong. My furniture is either to big, to small, or not the right color. Right now, I have boxes sitting in the corner of my room waiting for just the right piece of furniture to come into my hands. That is part of the journey. I have gone to every furniture store in my local area. I have walked miles for the right piece of furniture that will match my other furniture. It is not an easy task. I can not bring my hutch with me to the store to match the same exact color of wood for the new side table that I want in my dining room. It is not like when you are getting married, and you can get colored swatches to make sure that everything matches perfectly. It is more of a hit or miss kind of thing. However, it is more of a very expensive hit or miss kind of mistake.
So, I am sitting on my new furniture looking around my new space admiring everything when suddenly it dawns on me. The walls do not look quite right. The paint or wallpaper makes the room darker/lighter. I am not sure if it goes with my new furniture after all. I make a mad dash to the home improvement store. I think that painting my new space is the way to go. Once there I realize that there is not just one shade of yellow to brighten up my space. In fact, there are at least twenty different shades. There are even special lights to show you daylight vs. non-daylight on the paint chips. I spend an hour staring at all the different yellows that there are trying to decide which one would look perfect in my new space. After awhile the only yellow I can see is the yellow spots in front of my eyes. The special lights in the store are making me dizzy, and I am definitely sure that a headache is coming on. To the right of me is the stand that shows me all the different ways you can paint your yellow paint on the walls. I had not thought about it. I pretty much thought plain paint on the walls would be just fine. Now I am wondering if the sponge technique is the one for me. Then I go to the paint aisle to get a gallon of paint. Should I get the five gallons of paint, or stick with just the one gallon of paint? How many gallons of paint do you need to paint a room anyway? I decide that maybe wallpapering my home is not such a bad idea after all.
Well, my walls have never looked better. My furniture finally all matches. I then look down at my floors. The floor goes well, but maybe it would look even better with the hard wood floors that I saw while looking for my paint. Then I look at the curtains. Maybe newer curtains would be nice. Then I look around and notice that maybe I need different pictures to put on the wall. I shake my head, and I wonder to myself will I ever be done decorating my new space? Finally, after months of work I sit back and look around. Yes, my journey has ended. My home is my home now. It is my space. The last thing I think to myself is that was not so hard after all.
