Antique pewter will have a soft luster, while modern pewter may have either a bright, mirror-like finish or a satin finish. The choice is really a personal preference.
Country-style furnishings will lend themselves to a satin finish with its warm glow. Candlesticks, table lamps, and decorative figurines in simple shapes of satin pewter create an inviting casual atmosphere. A pewter bowl filled with lemons and limes will add lovely color and fragrance to a foyer or hallway.
Sleek, shiny pewter adds a refined element to chic decor. Candlelabras, chandeliers, picture frames and decorative figurines in shiny pewter creates an air of elegance at a cost more affordable than real silver. Attach pewter-color tacks or trim to the bottom of the sofa or around the top of the chairs for a traditional look.
Add fashionable pewter to your dining table with serving dishes and bowls, goblets, napkin and place card holders, serving utensils, and wine and bar accessories. Modern pewter is lead-free and safe for food use, unlike antique pewter which contains lead. Save the family heirlooms for display, but enjoy using your modern pewter daily.
Pewter pot racks, clocks, soap dispensers, coffee scoops, measuring spoons, towel bars, faucets, and cabinet knobs and drawer pulls can add genteel style to your kitchen.
In the bathroom, consider pewter towel rings and bars, faucets, wall decor, magazine racks, robe hooks, tissue holders, light fixtures, and vanity jars with pewter lids for either a rustic or polished decor.
Dress up the front door with a handsome pewter porch light fixture and doorbell plate. Add a pewter post lantern to light up the driveway or yard. All come in a variety of styles to enhance the exterior appearance of your home.
Add flair to your home or business office with pewter desk accessories. Letter openers, business card holders, paper clip holders, pencil cups, or stamp boxes are distinctive and impressive additions.
Pewter also makes a personal, memorable gift. It is easily engraved with monograms, special dates, personal inscriptions, or awards. A baby cup with the child's birthdate and name, a beautiful serving bowl with the newlyweds' wedding date, a jewelry box engraved with words of love, or trinket boxes inscribed with the date of a loved one's retirement, are all gifts that will be treasured.

Pewter is my favorite metal.
I had a pewter necklace of a roller skate when I was a kid and I LOVED it. Whenever I think about pewter I think about that necklace!
