Decorating Your Home with a Snowflake Theme for Christmas

Tiffany Bell
Snowflakes are one of my favorite Christmas decorations. I especially love decorating my house for Christmas with shiny and sparkly snowflakes to add a winter wonderland feeling to my home. It is quite easy to decorate your home with a snowflake theme for Christmas. There are tons of different snowflake Christmas decorations available at stores and online and you can even make some homemade snowflake decorations yourself. If you are interested in having a snowflake theme this Christmas for your home, here are some ideas on how you can do that.

One place that you can start with your snowflake theme for Christmas is with Christmas lights. Stores like Target and Wal-Mart sell Christmas lights that are in the shape of snowflakes. You can pick from large ones that can be hung outside on your house, or smaller ones that can be hung inside a window. If you have a large picture or bay window, hang different size snowflake lights in the window for a Christmas winter wonderland display. There are plenty of different snowflake lights that are sold to make your home look great in a snowflake theme.

Your Christmas tree is another great place to have a snowflake theme. There are tons of different snowflake ornaments available. They come in all different sizes, shapes and colors. You don't have to just stick to regular gold, silver or white snowflakes, but you can also have every color of the rainbow snowflakes hanging from your tree. Metal snowflake ornaments will catch the lights from the Christmas tree and will look like real snowflakes glimmering on the tree. Just because you have a snowflake theme for your Christmas tree, doesn't mean that every ornament on the Christmas tree has to be a snowflake. You can add snowmen ornaments or silver bells and white balls to add to the effect of the snowflake theme.

A good idea for a Christmas snowflake theme is to visit your local store like Wal-Mart and Target and find any decorations that have snowflakes on them. They can be wooden hanging decorations or large snowflake ornaments that you can hang from your walls. Look for candles that have snowflakes on them and other little knick knacks with snowflakes that can add a little Christmas decor to a table or shelf. Don't forget to check out the ribbon and wrapping paper section for any snowflake themes. You can use Christmas ribbon with snowflakes on it to decorate your Christmas tree, banisters, doorways, or use the ribbon to make bows for Christmas. Snowflake wrapping paper can be used on doors in your house to make them look like presents.

If you are trying to save money this Christmas on your decorations, you can still have a snowflake theme and decorations. Make your own paper snowflakes. You can use plain white computer paper or any leftover Christmas wrapping paper you may have. It is really easy to make your own paper snowflakes and it is something that you can have your children help you with.

To make your own paper snowflakes for a snowflake theme, fold a piece of paper in half. (Use varying sizes of paper for all different sized snowflakes.) Fold the folded piece of paper again in half. One of the sides of the folded paper will be all folds. Hold the corner that is all folds towards you and round off the paper on the top. The paper will look like an ice cream cone. Take your scissors and make different patterns on the snowflake by cutting out designs and cut-outs from the paper. Be sure not to cut to close to the center as the snowflake will rip. Open the paper up and you now have a unique snowflake. You can decorate the snowflake with glitter, markers or paint if you used plain paper. Use string to hang the paper snowflakes up in your house from the ceilings and doorways.

You will be surprised at just how many snowflake Christmas decorations that you will find and it will be a cinch to decorate your home in a wonderful and beautiful snowflake theme this Christmas.
