Decorating for a Horror Movie Halloween Party Theme

Tonya Hillukka

Do you want to plan an unforgettable Halloween bash this year? The first thing you need to do is come up with a theme -- and what better time for a horror movie party theme than the scariest night of the year. What's your favorite horror film? Whether it's the classic Creature from the Black Lagoon or one of the newer Halloween movies, use it as inspiration for planning your big bash. There are limitless options when it comes to decorating for a horror movie theme Halloween party.

If you like, you can narrow your theme down to a specific movie or decade (80's horror films, for example). Or, you can just go with a general theme that incorporates elements from various horror movies.

Horror movie posters

There is a poster for nearly any movie you have seen. You will find horror movie posters in Halloween stores or other retail stores, and you can even order them online . Hang movie posters on the walls for your party; if you have narrowed the theme down to honor a specific horror film, welcome guests by hanging that movie's poster on the front door.

Movie related props

Visit any Halloween party store, and you will find all kinds of party props, including those inspired by certain horror movies. Animated zombies, hockey masks, bloody weapons: You name it, and you will likely see it as the haunted holiday draws near. Creep your guests out with spooky props and decorations. Severed limbs, fake insects and rodents, balloons and streamers will add the finishing touches.

Food as party decor

Food can actually add to the party decorations, as you might already know. Blood punch is a popular horror beverage, complete with floating eyeballs or spiders frozen in ice cubes. Embellish any type of food that might add to the gross factor, and serve it to guests at your party. Decorate the serving table with a festive tablecloth, cobwebs, creepy critters and anything else that might gross out your party guests.

Finally, ask your guests to dress up as their favorite horror movie characters to help add to the festive Halloween atmosphere. The scarier, the better! Once everyone has arrived and the mood is set, sit down and enjoy some of your favorite freaky films.
