Child Development
After birth, and for many months beyond, babies learn how to use the structures of their eyes and spend a great deal of time learning how to use their eyes: to focus, to move together, to see depth, to develop eye hand coordination and more. Decorating a baby room to help develop these skills is a great step in supporting developmental milestone and an opportunity to think up personalized decorating ideas for baby bedding.
Baby Bedding Set
Baby bedding sets are all different but typically consist of wall art, crib blankets, crib sheets, comforters and blankets. If you want to make your baby bedding set and have it support developmental milestones, you might consider buying material at a sewing and craft store that has high contrast. Research indicates that babies innately like to look at highly different edges and patterns such as black and white. What this means is for parents to consider decorating ideas that provide this contrast. Baby bedding sets might consist of white sheets with a black and white quilted comforter hung over the side of the crib. Decorating a black and white comforter might mean appliquéing black polka-dots or animals on the quilt to provide the contrast that helps a baby learn to use their eyes to focus.
Decorating Ideas: Wall Hanging
Another interesting thing to consider when planning decorating ideas for a baby is babies like bold colors and are better able to focus on these than lighter, pale colors. Continuing to think about making your baby bedding set and incorporating this information in the planning might mean you make a wall hanging the baby can look at in bright contracting colors such as red and white, blue and white etc. Research indicates that new born babies are able to focus best on objects that are anywhere from 8 to 12 inches away. It is important to use this information when you think about decorating ideas. One decorating idea that uses bright colors and the information about how far an object has to be for a baby to focus on it well, is to make a mobile and hang it 8 to 10 inches above the crib and in the line of vision of the baby.
Decorating Ideas: Baby Bedding Set and Colors
A study conducted over 40 years ago by M. H. Bornstein showed that babies look longer at the colors red and blue and are not particularly interested in shades of green. It is important to think about this information when coming up with baby bedding decorating ideas. The more you can use the colors babies prefer, take into account the distance babies need to be able to focus clearly on objects and remember babies like patterns more than solid colors... the more likely it will be that you will make a baby bedding set that is in the best interest of your baby's visual development.
