Decorating Ideas for a Baby Boy's Bedroom: Curious George

Bring Your Baby Boy Home to a Room Filled with Curiosity and Cheer

Lindsay Maddox
One of the most exciting parts of having kids is getting to decorate their room. Before you bring baby home, bring back memories from your own childhood with a Curious George theme. Your little guy will love his cute, bright, and cheery room, and it will last him well into his toddler years. The following are some suggestions for paint schemes, creative storage ideas, and where to buy some great Curious George accents.

1. Paint

Curious George always has wonderful primary colors around him. For the walls, I suggest using either Sherwin Williams' Direct Green (6924) or Major Blue (6795) as these colors are bright and fun and match well with the Curious George theme. You could also tone down the brightness with more paled versions of these colors. If you'd like to see what they'll look like, go to www.sherwinwilliams.com, click "launch visualizer" in the "Paint Online" box. From there, click Bedroom, choose the room that looks similar to the room you're creating, and start playing with colors!

2. Stencil

After the paint dries, the fun starts! To add a unique touch to your little man's room, I suggest putting a quote on the wall. You can either paint these out yourself in black paint, or go http://www.wisedecor.com/, input and order your own quote or phrase. They will send you transfer letters that stick straight to your wall, so you don't have to mess with stencils.

Some curiosity related quote ideas from www.wisdomquotes.com are:

"When you're curious you find lots of interesting things to do." Walt Disney

Imagination is evidence of the divine.

Wonder.

"Imagination is the highest kite one can fly." Lauren Bacall

Your quote can go anywhere on the walls, or even on furniture, however I suggest putting it above the window in your child's room, since that area tends to get neglected when decorating a room.

3. Add Curious George

If you are artistically inclined, paint a few Curious George related scenes on the walls. Curious George is most often illustrated with colorful balloons or balls (red, yellow, blue, and green), bees, a firetruck, or a kite. If your painting skills don't go quite that far, there are other options too: This wall mural at awestores.com can be peeled and stuck onto the wall in your desired design. If you'd rather have smaller George accents, these wall decals would also add a nice touch.

4. Bedding

You won't want to over-do the Curious George theme, or it will take away from all of the work you've put into the walls. I suggest getting a solid colored crib sheet, such as this red one (if you have blue walls) from Babys R Us or this blue one (if you have green walls).

Although you probably won't have pillows in your baby's crib for safety reasons, either of these pillows would make a nice accent piece, and you'll be able to use them once your little guy is a little bigger:

If you'd like to swaddle your little guy in a blanket that matches his room, check out this fleece blanket from awestores.com.

5. Accents

Instead of that boring 'ol white light switch, consider using a switchplate with Curious George's face or simply a solid color, such as yellow or red.

Here's a fun idea for storage and a bookshelf: Use this cube storage system from target.com, and intermittently place a Curious George tin pail, some Curious George books, a plush doll or two, the Man with the Yellow Hat's hat, and green canvas storage cubes or blue canvas storage cubes.

To polish off your baby's cheerful Curious George room, add a musical mobile for his crib.

6. Furniture

I cannot stress enough that you don't want to get too Curious George happy. With too much George clutter, the focus of the room will get lost. In this case, less is definitely more. Therefore, if you add a chair or dresser and you'd like it to match the room, make sure it's a complimentary color such as yellow, red, blue, green, or even brown. This dresser from target.com would be a nice addition to the room, as would this red toy storage box.

I hope these suggestions help you out and you enjoy decorating your little guy's room. He is definitely going to love all of the bright colors and cheerful decorations. And anyway, who doesn't love Curious George?
