Are you throwing a baby shower for a friend or a family member? Then you will want to have beautiful decorations for the baby shower. Here are some decorating ideas to inspire you.

Probably the first step in decorating is to select a theme. You may have already selected a theme to the shower, and this theme would be the easiest to continue with the decorating. Some themes include teddy bears, rubber ducks, kangaroos, baby animals and flowers. Other themes would simply be using colors, such as pink and white (for a girl), blue and white (for a boy)or using pink and blue (if they aren't sure if it is a boy or a girl).

Centerpieces are a big part of decorating for a baby shower. You do not have to spend a lot of money on decorations, just use lots of thoughtful touches, and keep repeating your theme in a creative way. So if your theme was teddy bears, purchase some small teddy bears at a discount toy store and place one at each table in the center of the table. Prop the teddy bear up by wrapping a small box in gift wrap paper that compliments your theme. You could also buy some rattles at the dollar store and place a rattle next to each teddy bear.

If your theme is rubber ducks, then get a wide rimmed bowl that is clear for every table. Place water in each bowl and a rubber duck in each bowl. You could also add some flower heads to each bowl, such as Gerbera daisies, which come in beautiful colors and look very pretty.

If you are not into making things, do something simple. Buy potted flowering plants and cover the flowering plant pots with pink or blue paper. That will make a pretty centerpiece, and one of the guests can take this home after the party. Some people like to use candles as a centerpiece, but often baby showers are held in the afternoon, and this is really not the optimal time to light a candle.

When decorating the tables at baby showers, you will also want to add tablecloths. Use paper, plastic or cloth - depending on your budget and preference. Fortunately now each of these come in so many colors, you can coordinate them to your shower colors. Try to measure the table before you buy the tablecloths.

You may also want to give your guests a favor, something at each plate at the table. You can make your own favors or you can buy favors from so many stores or websites. A nice favor can be a small box of chocolates or a large cookie. Another nice favor can be a cookie cutter tied with a ribbon. Another idea can be a small plant - flowering or without flowers. You could also give each guest a scented candle. No matter your budget, there are so many ideas for favors that you can come up with.

If you wish to decorate the rest of the room, you may wish to add some Mylar or regular balloons for a festive touch. Mylar balloons are shiny and they can come in a variety of shapes. You can also get balloons in so many colors. You can put balloons in the corners of each room and around the new mother's chair to look pretty. Another way to decorate the room is to use streamers. Curl the streamers while you hang them. It can look nice if you use two or even three colors of streamers when decorating a room. A room that is decorated tends to look best with less clutter, a few pretty touches but not to excess. It is like a woman who wears rings on every finger she has, as opposed to a woman who wears two rings - which woman looks more elegant?

Decorating for a baby shower can be easy and fun. Enjoy the baby shower!
